Position Summary

This position will interpret and apply the Collective Bargaining Agreements between the University and the ten labor organizations representing University employees on all matters, including: compensation, leave, filling of vacancies and discipline. The position will correctly apply relevant law and policy, such as Michigan’s Public Employment Relations Act in partnership with the Office of General Counsel and outside labor counsel. The position will develop positive and productive relationships with stakeholders throughout campus, including: Human Resources staff in MSU HR and in units throughout campus, as well as with union officers and representatives. The position will participate in, and at times represent the University, in grievances, arbitrations, collective bargaining and other meetings. The position will also engage in outreach and training activities.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Human Resources Administration, Labor and Industrial Relations, or a related field; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in human resources administration, data and/or statistical analysis, and/or program development and implementation in a Human Resource area related to the area of employment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

Master’s in human resources/labor relations or similar degree with a focus on human resources or labor relations, experience in employee relations related work at a public employer.
