ASSISTANT VICE PRESIDENT FOR DEVELOPMENT OPERATIONS

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Assistant Vice President for Operations will provide direct supervision for the operations of Annual Giving, and the activities of the Stewardship Administrator, the Director of Institutional Advancement and Campaign Events and the Assistant Director for Scholarship Management and Reporting and ensure the departments are meet divisional objectives in conjunction with the College’s mission.  This position also assist with other special projects as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Tracks the moves management and progress toward annual fundraising goals for the Annual Giving Department.  Monitors and reports progress regularly to the Vice President for Institutional Advancement and others, as required.
  • Supervises and serves as a key fundraising strategist in overseeing and guiding the Director of Annual Giving towards the maximization of the work of annual giving fundraisers and other volunteer fundraisers to ensure effective prospect moves management and gift closing, i.e. optimal solicitation timing and/or pledge fulfillment when appropriate.
  • Ensures accurate forecasting and measurement of the effectiveness of the fiscal year.
  • Provides input to and evaluation of fundraising priorities, plans and activities across the Institutional Advancement (IA) division.
  • Supports the Vice President’s for Institutional Advancement in achieving divisional priorities and targets, consistent with the College’s strategic plan and campaign priorities.
  • Supervises and motivates the Director of Institutional Advancement and Campaign Events to ensure that events assist the fundraising mission of the College; ensure event metrics and outcomes are achieved; and a comprehensive events strategy for the IA Division is developed.  Supervises and motivates the Assistant Director of Scholarship Management and Reporting who oversees the scholarship reporting process to ensure that scholarships are awarded in accordance with current policies.
  • Establishes a good working relationship with the IG team (who solicits donors for scholarships), the Advancement Services team, the Office of Financial Aid and the Office of Business and Financial Affairs.
  • Supervises and motivates the Stewardship Administrator to develop and implement a comprehensive stewardship plan to high wealth donors and other groups. 

Campaign Support

 

  • Implements/supports capital campaign strategies as communicated by Vice President.

 

 

  • Implements assigned campaign activities, working closely with the Vice President, Campaign Director and, staff, campaign counsel, volunteers and donors.
     
  • Participates in the development and implementation of strategies to recruit, retain, and steward campaign leaders.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has supervisory responsibilities for various units in the IA Division including the following: Director of Annual Giving, Director of Institutional Advancement and Campaign Events, Assistant Director of Scholarship Management and Reporting and the Stewardship Administrator.  This does not include work study students.

DIMENSIONS

Contributory responsibility for College budget, i.e., review and monitoring of activity after budget has been prepared.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree with 7 - 10 years of successful funding raising experience. Master’s degree a preferred by not required. Prior supervisory experience required.

 

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a diverse group of people and organizations are essential.  The incumbent must have knowledge of financial accounting and reporting for private colleges, analytical and problem solving skills, and the ability to think in a strategic manner.  Strong management abilities are also required.

 

Excellent oral communication skills are required when presenting information and responding to questions from internal and external customers in one-on-one or group situations.  Incumbent must also have excellent writing skills with the ability to various forms of fundraising communication, and general business correspondence plus compose memos, letters, and e-mails.  Also, must be able to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as annual reports, business and accounting periodicals, and safety rules. 

 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the ability to perform intermediate level computer skills using the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).  In addition to producing business correspondence, duties may involve assignments that require creating spreadsheets with formulas and pivot tables, PowerPoint presentations, and computer generated graphics.  Internet navigation and use of Lotus Notes/Outlook are required.
