Description:

The University of Florida, Department of Health Outcomes and Biomedical Informatics (HOBI) in the College of Medicine is recruiting a tenure track Assistant Professor. Areas of particular interest include a research emphasis in learning health systems, clinical research informatics, clinical decision support, population health informatics, and/or the intersection of informatics and health services research.

With mentorship and collaboration from senior faculty members, candidates are expected to develop and ultimately lead their own research program. The ideal candidate will be well-positioned to develop a research program that contributes to biomedical informatics knowledge, fosters interdisciplinary team science, and collaborates closely with the UF Health system’s clinical and information technology teams.

Biomedical informatics is a strategic area of growth for the University and for the UF Health System. Within the HOBI Department, the Division of Biomedical Informatics has eight faculty members and established certificate, Masters, and PhD programs. Biomedical Informatics faculty members work closely with faculty members in the Health Outcomes and Implementation Science division, who have expertise in implementation science, health economics, biostatistics, health policy, and health services research. In addition, faculty members collaborate closely with the UF Informatics Institute, and through the Clinical and Translational Science Institute, provide leadership for Biomedical Informatics throughout the Health Science Center, the UF Health system and University.

The HOBI Department has excellent infrastructure and resources to support the success of a new Assistant Professor. The Division of Biomedical Informatics has an established project management office and a team of software engineers, coordinators, and analysts, all of which serve as faculty resources for numerous biomedical informatics, departmental, and university-wide initiatives. The Department also has dedicated pre-award and post-award grants management staff. In addition, the new Assistant Professor will have access to numerous assets including the OneFlorida Data Trust, which contains clinical, health care claims and data related to social determinants of health for over 14 million individuals. Department faculty also benefit from close collaboration with the UF Health system’s clinical and informatics operations.

In addition to the collaborations described above, the HOBI department fosters collaborative relationships with investigators across diverse disciplines, including pediatrics, medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, molecular biology, epidemiology, genetics, behavioral medicine, policy evaluation, communication science, and health outcomes research. The Department works closely with the Institute for Child Health Policy, Clinical and Translational Science Institute, Department of Pediatrics, Department of Medicine, UF Health Cancer Center, the Institute for Aging and the Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center. The Department as a whole is comprised of 22 full‐time faculty members, 4 postdoctoral associates, and over 100 professional and support staff, offering an exceptional research environment with over $24M annually in extramural funding.

Requirements for the Assistant Professor position includes: 1) an MD and/or a PhD in biomedical informatics or a related field, including but not limited to computer science, information science, engineering, or health services research 2) a track record of investigation in biomedical informatics, and 3) a commitment to pursue an academic biomedical informatics career
