Position Summary:

This position provides comprehensive computing support services to all customers of the College of Ag & Life Sciences (CALS) Administrative Computing Services (ACS). This includes all units within CALS Administration in addition to other units directly affiliated with Administration offices which includes Ag Research Stations offices across the state totaling about 150 customers. Support is also provided to other CALS departments and programs that request assistance. This position will serve as a primary desktop support technologist with responsibilities including daily support of user desktop computing environments, consulting with Administrative staff on computing technology solutions and endpoint deployment and life cycle management. Our infrastructure includes a combination of PC & Mac platforms (~400 endpoints), server & desktop virtual machines, various mobile computing platforms and Windows Active Directory.

The person in this position must be dedicated to providing excellent customer service, work cohesively with other CALS IT staff and support the mission and goals of the CALS ACS office.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

Bachelor's Degree required, Computer Sciences or related field preferred.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

-At least 1 year providing computing support and assistance ideally in a higher education environment.
-Knowledge and experience supporting Windows and Mac OS platforms are required.
-Knowledge of Windows Active Directory, networking technologies, IT security and endpoint management solutions are a must.

In addition, he/she must possess strong organizational, analytical, communication and interpersonal skills. A valid Wisconsin driver's license is required to provide occasional onsite IT support at remote customer locations across the state.

-Proven ability to provide excellent, customer-focused technology support, assistance and training.
-Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills including an ability to communicate technical concepts to audiences with varying levels of technical competencies.
-Excellent organizational & prioritization skills and the ability to work under deadline pressures.
-Ability to work in a team oriented, collaborative work environment.
-Experience with IT service management practices, including incident and service request management, change management best practices and asset management systems.
-Ability to lift 25 lbs.

Additional Information:

This position is under limited supervision of the Manager of Administrative Computing Services (ACS) in CALS. He/she will work closely with the CALS Security Officer on IT security issues and compliance. The person in this position will work as part of a team of IT professionals in the Office of CALS ACS to provide services to college and campus customers.

-Experience with standard technology support practices, including call tracking applications and concepts, change management best practices and asset management systems.
-Ability to lift 25 lbs.

A criminal background check will be required.
A period of evaluation will be required.
