Departmental Overview

Berkeley's Lawrence Hall of Science—the country's only science center that is part of a top-tier, public research university. This distinctive affiliation allows the Hall to partner with world-class scientists, engineers, educational leaders, and teachers, with the goal of developing and disseminating the most innovative and effective science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) programs available today. Our mission is to inspire and foster science learning for all—especially for those with limited access to science.

Responsibilities

  • Handles administrative aspects of the Director's office including scheduling and calendar management; documentation of meetings; purchasing, reimbursements; liaising with HR and business office; and other miscellaneous administrative needs.
  • Manages and assists with administrative & communications tasks related to the Director's fundraising activities, including prospect research and tracking; donor stewardship and acknowledgement; preparation of materials for stakeholder communications (such as written reports and presentations), and liaison with donors as assigned.
  • Assists with special events related to development and public relations including communication and marketing, arranging programmatic aspects of the event, and supporting on-the-ground needs during the event.
  • Partner with other staff (such as Chief of Staff and Assistant Director of Development) to develop systems and processes for development-related administrative functions in the Director's office.
  • Performs administrative functions related to the Advisory Council and Faculty Advisory Committee including scheduling meetings, taking minutes, and other logistics.
  • Responds to ad hoc administrative needs supporting the Director's office, Deputy Director‘s office, and Development office.

    Required Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of common computer application programs (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Solid communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff, both verbally and in writing.
  • Solid organizational skills and ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
  • Ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues concerns, and conflicting priorities.
  • High attention to detail and ability to retain and respond to complex, evolving processes.

    Salary & Benefits

    This is a non-exempt, biweekly paid position. Hourly salary is commensurate with experience up to $30.32 (Step 11.0)

    This position is governed by the terms and conditions in the agreement for the Clerical & Allied Services Unit (CX) between the University of California and Teamsters Local 2010.
