Stanford Medicine is the single brand used for 3 different entities: Stanford School of Medicine, Stanford Health Care, and Lucile Packard Children's Hospital. Stanford Medicine is led by a partnership among the Dean of the School of Medicine and Stanford's two hospital CEOs. The Role:
Stanford University School of Medicine is seeking a Director of Strategic Initiatives to work with senior faculty and Stanford Medicine leadership on strategic planning and leadership of key initiatives. You will lead through influence and work with key leaders across Stanford Medicine to achieve the Stanford Medicine vision of leading the biomedical revolution in Precision Health and to drive strategies that will support the organization's mission.
Duties include:
  • Facilitate and drive key strategic initiatives from inception phase. Scoping and implementing special projects and strategic initiatives to support Stanford Medicine, and executing on the long-term strategic vision as well as to meet short-term objectives.
  • Lead programs that require cross-functional engagement with key staff across the organization, and with external stakeholders.
  • Partner and develop strong working relationships with institutional leadership, special committees, and consultants to support execution of key initiatives.
  • Participate and play a key role in developing inclusive strategic planning processes.
  • Ensure that strategies are developed which reflect the complex intersection of academic and healthcare related economic, policy and regulatory environments, considering both current and likely future developments.

    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    A working knowledge of health care industry trends in demographics, policy, science/technology and economics is valuable, as is Stanford experience and working in an Academic organization.

    EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):

    Bachelor's degree and eight years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to influence and motivate constituencies which could span multiple organizational boundaries.
  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of diplomacy in persuading and influencing a wide variety of people at various levels to achieve results.
  • Demonstrated excellent planning, organizational and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to make sound business decisions using good business judgment and innovative and creative problem-solving.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage financial, organizational and staff resources.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills with the ability to cultivate professional and business partnerships.
  • Relevant subject matter expertise.
  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:
    • Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
    • Frequently stand/walk, sitting, grasp lightly/fine manipulation.
    • Occasionally use a telephone.
    • Rarely lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh 11-20 pounds.
