As one of the nation’s top schools of social work, Boston University School of Social Work (BUSSW) is dedicated to the pursuit of inclusive excellence in education, research, and evidence-based practice to advance social, racial, gender, and economic justice and solve the most pressing societal problems of the 21st century. We invite applications for a 12-month full-time (FT) salaried lecturer position in the Clinical Practice Department. The FT lecturer will teach 24 credits (~8 courses total) in the MSW program across the fall, spring, and summer semesters. They will advise 10 to 12 in-field students (or its equivalent) and read admissions applications, for a time commitment of approximately 100 hours. Typically, courses will be one or more of the following: required foundation and/or advanced courses in clinical practice with children, youth, and adults as individuals, groups and/or families; advanced clinical electives focused on specific populations and clinical evidence-based/informed methods; anti-oppressive practice; and trauma-responsive social work practice. Lecturers may teach across SSW’s platforms, including the Charles River Campus Program, the Off-Campus Program, and the Online Program. In the Online Program, the FT Lecturer may serve as course instructor (2 or 3 credits per course) and/or facilitator (1.5 credits per section). This appointment will be for 2-3 years with the possibility of a renewal contract.

Required Skills

  • Must hold an MSW degree and LICSW
  • A minimum of 5+ years of [recent] experience as a social work practitioner
  • Evidence of excellent teaching and training skills appropriate to the MSW curriculum, which include clinical practice that integrates anti-oppressive practice
  • Experience teaching clinical practice approaches with individuals, groups, and/or families that are trauma-responsive and justice-focused
  • Experience working with ethnically, racially and gender-diverse persons (e.g., communities of color, LGBTQA+) and students
  • Commitment to anti-oppressive teaching methods.

FT Lecturers are not required to serve on standing committees or attend faculty meetings. However, they are strongly encouraged to attend faculty and department meetings. Over-base compensation for additional teaching, advising, or other service duties might be possible and would be arranged on an individual basis per the annual contract.
