Student Affairs Information Technologies (SAIT) provides technology leadership and support to the Division of Student Affairs; technical support, education, and hands-on learning and leadership opportunities for students; and student advocacy and engagement in campus technology development. Our deep knowledge and understanding of our students' and staff needs, coupled with our technical expertise, makes SAIT a trusted partner, committed to an excellent student experience. Our dedication, responsiveness, and commitment equip us to meet our customers' evolving demands as we work collaboratively to serve students. SAIT consists of 31 full-time career staff and over 80 part-time student staff, distributed across Development & Operations, Strategic Initiatives, Information Security, Technical Project & Portfolio Management, and Student Technologies.

The Strategic Initiatives Manager functions as an internal consultant providing professional direction and leadership in the analysis of complex, large-scale business processes. This position will collaborate with campus policy makers, unit/department directors, subject matter experts, and cross-functional project teams to identify areas in existing business operations that may be improved with strategic use of technology. Further, the Strategic Initiatives Manager assesses strategic issues related to organizational effectiveness, including analyzing assessments, strategic planning, technology portfolio management and resource needs planning, and workforce development and workplace culture efforts.

The Strategic Initiatives Manager is a member of the SAIT senior leadership team.

Business Systems Analysis:
  •     Applies advanced business systems concepts to define highly complex student systems scope and objectives based on user needs and applicable business systems and industry requirements. 
  •     Regularly leads analyses with unit directors, Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and other campus stakeholders to collect, analyze, and map information about key student service business processes and technology needs. Leads cross-functional teams to solve complex business or systems issues. 
  •     Facilitates decision-making considering business implications of the application of technology to the current and future business environment. 
  •     Directs, analyzes, facilitates, documents and implements work process changes with both local and campus-wide impact. Completes reports and summaries and makes recommendations to organizational and divisional leadership.

    Research, Assessment, and Strategic Initiatives Leadership:
  •     Utilizes interdisciplinary best practices research and continuous learning activities to identify evidence-based and innovative approaches to organizational planning, strategy development and implementation, persuasive communications, team development, and integration of quantitative and qualitative data into organizational level decision making. 
  •     Develops change management strategies based on a situational awareness of the details of the change and the groups being impacted by the change. Actively advises and coaches managers and supervisors throughout the organization.
  •     Coordinates with campus leadership on IT visioning strategies.
  •     Represents the Associate CIO and SAIT at external IT and campus meetings, projects and events as needed.
  •     Identifies and coordinates training opportunities for SAIT's professional staff. Participates in cross-functional group discussions, activities and other training efforts. 

  •     Adheres to University and departmental policies, procedures, and professional practices as well as city, state, and federal laws. Also responsible for adherence to UC Berkeley's Data Classification Standard, Minimum Security Standards for Networked Devices and Minimum Security Standards for Electronic Information.
  •     Professional development, skill enhancement, and training.  
  •     Other duties as assigned.

    Education/Training:
  •     Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
