The Center for Definitive and Curative Medicine is seeking a Research Finance Administrator (RA1) to join a team of dedicated professionals who support translational research in stem cell and gene therapy. The successful candidate will perform basic financial functions and/or activities while acquiring fundamental knowledge and application of internal policies, external regulations, precedents, and systems. This position provides an opportunity to work in a collaborative team environment, support the mission of the CDCM, and partner with physician researchers and their research teams. The candidate will also be afforded the opportunity to eventually learn and develop advanced skills with the purpose of managing an assigned research portfolio under minimal supervision. The CDCM is a growing center and the successful candidate will be able to work in a dynamic environment to assist in the proposal preparation and post-award financial activities on grants, contracts, gifts, program projects, and federal grants, both routine and complex.

Duties include:

•Assist in the preparation of routine proposals within parameters of sponsored and non-sponsored research guidelines. Coordinate and communicate submission process, both paper and electronic; review documents for completeness and compliance. Proposal submissions to sponsors includes but is not limited to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), pharmaceutical groups, the State of California, private non-profit foundations, and philanthropic donors.
•Develop, prepare, and finalize project budgets for research proposals and non-sponsored projects.
•Serve as liaison and active partner and collaborator between principal investigators, central finance staff of the department, Office of Sponsored Research, Research Management Group (RMG), research groups, and other departments; respond to sponsor inquiries. Aforementioned activities and collaborations with these groups will include proper award set up and cost-sharing awards where applicable.
•Review and understand the terms and conditions of awarded/funded sponsored projects administered.
•Monitor post award spending and commitment activity. Review and update monthly expenditures and update monthly project projections and commitments per assigned.
•Initiate staff and faculty labor adjustments and labor scheduling.
•Initiate expense journals.
•Review and audit expense reimbursements, including research and divisional activities and foreign and domestic travel.
•Participate in contract closeout process and audit inquiries; submit final reports and certificates.
•Participate in and contribute to process improvements and group projects.
•Contribute to staff trainings per assigned, including dissemination of new and updated policies and procedures from sponsors and the division/department.
•Assist in the management and updates of divisional unrestricted accounts including endowments, gifts, etc.
•Maintain and update faculty Other Support documents.

* - Other duties may also be assignedEDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):

Bachelor's degree and one year of job-related experience, or combination of education and experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):
•Ability to learn and stay updated about university and government policies (FAR, Cost Accounting Standards, Office of Management and Budget circulars, sponsored guidelines, etc.) to properly administer sponsored projects and non-sponsored research programs.
•Demonstrated understanding of terminology, such as compliance, title, sub-contractor, consultant, audit, and accounting review.
•Ability to manage and support pre- and post-award activities across federal, state, and private funders such as the NIH, CIRM, non-profit foundations, and philanthropic donors.
•Willingness and ability to understand and interpret university and sponsor policies and procedures.
•Excellent oral, written, and verbal communication skills.
•Excellent analytical skills; demonstrated expertise in Excel and web-based tools, especially pivot tables and other advanced features.
•Strong accounting skills; knowledge of basic accounting principles.
•Ability to complete Cardinal Curriculum I and II while in position.
•Extreme attention to detail.
•Ability to work well independently, but also to seek assistance when needed.
•Ability to work closely and collaborate with other finance team members.
•Exhibits comfort collaborating with colleagues in varying positions of leadership within the division.
•Excellent time management and organizational skills.

CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES:

Cardinal Curriculum I and II must be completed to remain in this position.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

•Frequently sit, grasp lightly, use fine manipulation and perform desk-based computer tasks, lift, carry, push and pull objects weighing up to ten pounds.
•Occasionally stand, walk, grasp forcefully, use a telephone, write by hand and sort and file paperwork or parts.
•Rarely lift, carry, push and pull objects weighing 11-20 pounds.
