Overview
The Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory seeks to fill an experimental postdoctoral research position that will be based at our Princeton, NJ location but will also spend time in France while on temporary relocation to the WEST Tokamak in the south of France (Cadarache, Provence). WEST is designed to investigate steady state operation in a tungsten environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for installing and operating a low-Z impurity power dropper and edge Thomson scattering channels on WEST in order to explore the effects of tungsten walls and low-Z impurities on confinement and stability. The successful candidate will be part of a multi-institutional US collaborative team.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will characterize and contribute to the understanding of the effects of tungsten wall material and low-Z powder impurities on WEST plasmas including effects on the LH transition and the transport and stability of the edge-transport-barrier. Responsibilities include the installation and operation of a low-Z impurity powder dropper (IPD) and edge Thomson scattering channels. The successful candidate will analyze experimental data, develop hypotheses, design and execute experiments in WEST and perform analysis of experimental results. The successful candidate will work in collaboration with other U.S. collaborators and the WEST team. We are looking for a highly motivated scientist, and an excellent communicator who enjoys working as part of a large research team. The successful candidate will be based in Princeton, NJ, but will spend a number of months each year on temporary relocation to Cadrache, France.
