The Associate Director of Student Financial Services is a full-time position that will assist the Director of Student Financial Services/Title IV Compliance in administering federal, state, and institutional financial aid programs. The Associate Director is responsible for financial aid data integrity and activity including, but not limited to, imports, exports, and system changes. The Associate Director also provides leadership to the Office of Financial Aid Planning, ensuring the needs of prospective and current students and their families are met with the goal of increasing enrollment, retention, and graduation rates and that the policies and procedures within the department are compliant with all institutional, state, and federal regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the origination and disbursement of all federal, state, and institutional funds; coordinate disbursement processes and expedite electronic return of funds, reallocations, or corrections.
  • In conjunction with the Director, timely calculate and communicate all required R2T4s; ensure all required returns and/or post-withdrawal disbursements are processed in compliance with federal and state programs.
  • Transmit Institutional Student Information Records (ISIRs) and Direct Loan and Pell data files, ensuring timely and accurate transmissions and ensuring compliance standards are being met.
  • Review and audit financial aid application data to determine accurate and compliant award packages; communicate and provide training as needed to the Financial Aid Planning team.
  • Coordinate reporting, processing, and reconciliation of funds for state grant programs; provide back-up assistance to manage and process outside/private scholarships, grants, and loans.
  • Assist the Director with the interpretation of federal, state, and institutional regulations and policies and the implementation of any required regulatory changes; document and maintain internal policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all regulations.
  • Assist in ensuring accurate and compliant reporting within NSLDS, COD, EdConnect, and CampusVue, in conjunction with the Director and the Registrar.
  • In conjunction with the Director, facilitate annual third-party audits and program reviews; conduct sample auditing of all completed student financial aid files, including, but not limited to, verification and awarding; assist in the compilation of data for internal and external reports.
  • Provide leadership and direction to the Office of Financial Aid Planning; set short- and long-term goals for the team and motivate staff to achieve them; provide training to the team on current and new regulations in regard to verification, packaging, and awarding.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of financial aid strategies to increase enrollment, retention, and graduation rates across the institution.
  • Serve as the liaison to other departments such as Student Accounts and Finance, providing regular reports and reconciliations as necessary.
  • Ensure Federal Work-Study funds are managed appropriately and in compliance with all regulations.
  • Manage the Financial Aid module in the student information system; conduct all required testing of regulatory and production upgrades and oversee their implementation within the department.
  • Assist the Director with other projects as needed.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Experience working in Higher education (required).
  • 5-7 years’ experience and working knowledge of federal Title IV and state financial aid regulations.
  • Strong technical knowledge of related databases, including COD and NSLDS; experience with National Student Clearinghouse and CampusVue a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must possess the ability to compile, analyze, and provide timely reporting of financial metrics.
  • Working knowledge of federal and state regulations pertaining to financial aid and an understanding of the principles of need analysis and award packaging is required.
  • Prior management or supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Must be detail-oriented, with the ability to self-manage multiple projects while working under deadlines during peak times of the year.

Physical Requirements: Sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 to 15 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Stooping. Bending body downward and forward.

Working Conditions: Normal office conditions. Some evening and weekend hours may be required during peak times.

Travel: May require travel to the Taunton location occasionally.
