Description

Universityof Colorado – School of Medicine

Post-Doctoral Fellow The University of Colorado Denver l AnschutzMedical Campus seeks individuals with demonstrated commitment to creating aninclusive learning and working environment.  We value the ability toengage effectively with students, faculty and staff of diverse backgrounds.

The Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Research laboratory (CVP)  is conducting the state-of-the-art research investigating the physiologic and molecular mechanisms involved in the development of pediatric pulmonary vascular diseases including pulmonary hypertension and acute lung injury. The research group consists of both M.D. and Ph.D. researchers who are supported by grants from the National Institutes of Health, American Heart Association, American Lung Association, Department of Defense, March of Dimes, and industry partners. The postdoctoral fellow will work directly with the principal investigator, Dr. Nozik-Grayck, though a multidisciplinary team approach is used in both mentoring and research training that emphasizes the integration of cardiovascular-pulmonary responses on the molecular, cellular, biochemical, and physiological levels. Dr. Nozik-Grayck laboratory is broadly interested in the impact of redox-sensitive signaling pathways in the development of vascular inflammation and fibrosis in pulmonary hypertension and acute lung injury, with a particular focus on the contribution of extracellular oxidant/ antioxidant imbalance. We predominantly utilize a series of genetically engineered mice with alterations in vascular expression or localization of the key extracellular vascular antioxidant enzyme, EC-SOD, along with relevant cell culture models to test mechanisms responsible for pulmonary vascular remodeling. We are also interested in the role of epigenetic regulation of EC-SOD gene expression in pulmonary hypertension and novel approaches to selectively restore EC-SOD activity in the pulmonary circulation.

Job Responsibilities The successful candidate will work with Dr. Nozik-Grayck on projects investigating the role of redox signaling and altered EC-SOD expression or localization on the development of inflammation and fibrosis in pulmonary vascular disease. This is a full-time position. Duties will include research and teaching associated with the laboratory research. More specifically, the post-doctoral fellow will plan, perform, analyze and oversee bench research.  Teaching activity will generally involve laboratory staff, students, or faculty collaborators.  The fellow is expected to take a leadership role in planning scientific activities; keep abreast of and share with the laboratory pertinent scientific literature; participate in lab meetings and CVP conferences; and write both grants and scientific publications.   The fellow will be afforded both time and resources to promote collaborative studies and develop new techniques.

The research environment at University of Colorado Denver is exceptional, with access to state-of-the-art resources and a rich collaborative environment with a long-standing excellence in pulmonary and cardiovascular biology research that will further enrich the project and facilitate its success.
