Position Summary:

This position is primarily responsible for performing administrative functions involving the acquisition of routine and special order operating materials (medical/surgical supplies, laboratory and radiological supplies, medical gases, animal food and office supplies) for all departments in the UW Veterinary Care (UWVC). The position will also administer all financial functions for these transactions as well as audit and monitor these expenditures to ensure they follow University of Wisconsin policies and procedures. The incumbent will also work closely with the supervisors of all UWVC departments to acquire necessary supplies in a timely, efficient and cost effective manner. Maintain inventory of all operating room/medical supplies in the Central Supply area within the UWVC. Requires a working knowledge of School, University and State purchasing, billing and administrative policies and procedures. This individual will also meet with external vendors to view new stock items and obtain best prices for acquisition. Position requires the ability to communicate effectively and make independent judgments in interactions with multiple operating units and vendors. This position will function under the general supervision of the Assistant Hospital Director.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

Minimum of Associate's degree required. Bachelor's degree preferred.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

Requires advanced customer service skills, problem solving and negotiation skills. Knowledge of UW
and State purchasing policies and procedures strongly preferred. Highly qualified candidate must have
knowledge of inventory control processes and modern accounting principles and practices including
appropriate control systems and on-going audit processes. Requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Minimum 2 years professional experience with inventory and/or financial systems preferred.

License or Certificate:

Valid Driver's License with good driving record required.

Work Schedule:

Monday-Friday, 8:30AM - 5:00PM.

Occasional weekend hours for inventory projects.

This is a 2 year project position, with the possibility of becoming an ongoing appointment based on department need and employee performance.

Salary:

Minimum $15.73 HOURLY
