Consistently provides a tangible leadership role within the institution. There will only be one Advanced Clinical Team Leader for the UVA Medical Transport Network, which includes field units for ALS and critical care transportation, not the Medical Communications Center.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Under the direction of the Clinical Care Supervisor, guides the training activities of the department.

  • Assists in the development, maintenance, and administration of training standards, procedures and training manuals for the department.

  • In collaboration with Network leadership, implements and assures continued compliance with the training requirements as outlined in the annual education plan.

  • Assists in the development, review and maintenance of educational records and certification tracking of all department personnel.

  • Creates monthly reports and an annual summary of activities.

  • Under the direction the Clinical Care Supervisor, assists in the development, maintenance, scheduling and monitoring of new team member departmental orientation.

  • Conduct department-wide training needs assessment and identify skills or knowledge gaps that need to be addressed.

  • Use known education principles and stay up-to-date on new training methods and techniques

  • Assists in the development of programs which address continuous quality improvement, system enhancement, streamlined processes, patience experience and overall nurse performance.

  • Ensures compliance with appropriate regulatory requirements specific to the practice of EMS. Ensures that the highest quality care is provided to patients and their families.

  • Serves as a professional role model, coach, and resource for employees.  Participates actively in unit, hospital, and regional committees and work groups and assists in the development and implementation of the units shared governance model.

  • Assumes responsibility for own professional growth.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Position Compensation Range: $20.28 - $31.43 Hourly

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Graduate of an Emergency Medical Services program required; Bachelor’s degree preferred. Bachelor’s Degree in a related field within 5 years of hire.

Experience: 3 years of relevant experience at the advanced life support level required; 5 years and previous inter-facility transport experience preferred.

License/Certifications:

Required:

  • Virginia Department of Health Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic or eligible for reciprocity
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification 
  • American Heart Association (AHA) ACLS
  • American Heart Association (AHA) PALS 
  • Unrestricted Valid Driver’s License  

Required within 6 months of hire date:

  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program
  • STABLE Program Provider
  • Emergency Vehicle Operators Course (EVOC) Level II or higher

Required within one year of hire date:

  • TNATC, ATLS Audit or Advanced Trauma Equivalent 
  • International Board of Specialty Certification Flight Paramedic (FP-C) or Critical Care Paramedic (CCP-C)

Must be able to safely and securely fasten seat belts and shoulder harnesses in aircraft or ambulance, as provided by the aircraft or ambulance manufacturer, without modification to those safety devices. Able to tolerate stressors of flight and medical transport, including, but not limited to: excessive motion, vibration, extreme temperatures, standing or sitting for prolonged periods, frequent walking, bending/stooping and providing patient care in confined spaces. Able to respond to visual, verbal and non-verbal commands and communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Must be able to lift/push/pull a minimum of 150 lbs. May be exposed to hazardous chemicals, blood/body fluids and infectious diseases.
