Responsibilities

Handling and Transport:
  • Remove artworks from permanent storage locations and prepare for transport to on- and off-site locations.
  • Make portfolios and boxes, wrap and collar artworks, and assist with other temporary packing.
  • Load, unload, and help transport artworks to the off-site photo studio for photography.
  • Assist in the preparation of works for the photography process and work with photographer during the sessions to move and stage works.
  • Re-package and organize artworks, and return them to their permanent locations.

Collections Care:
  • Work under the direction of BAMPFA staff to rehouse and replace acidic storage materials, including interleaving and buffering materials.
  • Build new permanent housing for artworks, such as boxes for the Asian scroll collection.
  • Assist in the organization of the artworks during the photography process so that artworks move safely in and out of the different spaces.
  • Track artworks both on paper and in the collections database as they move from location to location.
  • Measure artworks and record descriptive information to be added to the database records as needed.
  • Assists designers, curators, registrar, and other museum staff as required. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Experience handling a variety of artwork media according to best practices.
  • Experience making and using packing materials to properly secure and safeguard artworks.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Access to reliable transportation.
  • Work well as part of a team.
  • Ability to safely lift 50 lbs. and to climb ladders.

Education/Training:
  • Bachelor degree and/or equivalent experience in art exhibition installation.

 

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with handling Asian artworks.
  • Strong skills in box-making and housing artworks.

 

Benefits

This position is a non-exempt, bi-weekly paid position. Hourly pay for this role is commensurate with experience within the Union negotiated range up to $22.22, Step 2.5.

This is a Limited (temporary) position.  The duration of this position will be approximately 30-weeks, working part-time at 30-hours per week.
