The University of Virginia's Department of Student Health and Wellness is seeking an Associate Director, Primary Care. The Associate Director is responsible for administrative duties that support the overall management of health units that provide general medical services exclusively to students. They oversee administrative tasks and projects as assigned by the Student Health Director, in line with standards of care requirements, federal and state laws, institutional priorities and policies, and best practices in college student health. The Associate Director provides input regarding the mission and strategy for the unit, are accountable for achieving results, and may represent the organization to internal and external constituencies when assigned. Within their scope of responsibility, they establish annual goals, oversee staff, communicate with key stakeholders across the University, and support the broader student experience mission of Student Affairs and the University. They practice considerable supervisory responsibility and engage in staff performance management.

Administrative, Professional & Leadership Responsibilities

  • Assist the Director in oversight of clinical operations, including: acute medical care, chronic medical care, preventive medical care, office-based procedures, emergency response planning and policy and peer review for above.
  • Care manager activities include after-hours care, medical withdrawals and readmissions, public health initiatives.
  • Responsible for the direct supervision of Advanced Practice providers and wage physicians in the medical clinic as well as the care manager. This includes ensuring Advanced Practice provider practice agreements are current and in compliance with state regulations. This also includes performance management and career development.
  • Collect and review performance data for providers (ex. peer review, patient satisfaction) and ensures staff compliance with timely and complete medical record documentation.
  • In collaboration with the Director, the Associate Director develops fair and equitable duty and call schedules and tracks leave in compliance with department and university policies.
  • Develop EMR processes that enhance the safety and efficiency of health care delivery.
  • Assist the Director in: addressing patient, parent, and university administration quality of care concerns; developing the agenda for regular staff meetings and in communicating committee activities, department initiatives, and pertinent clinical updates; communicating with public health, university, and community officials; serving on departmental committees as requested and assisting the leadership team with accreditation initiatives; and serving as search committee chair for new hires, coordinating with Student Affairs and Human Resources during the hiring process, and orienting new staff.
  • Responsible for using professional development time for teaching, research, or other scholarly activities as approved by leadership.
  • Other activities as deemed priority by the Director.

Clinical Responsibilities

·Provide high quality, evidence-based health care to all University of Virginia students.

·Provide acute care and chronic care for primary care concerns.

·Participate in primary care procedures.

·In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Medical degree

Experience: Two years of experience in clinical service post residency training

Licensure: Licensed MD in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Drug Enforcement Administration certification.
