Departmental Overview

UC Berkeley Extension is the continuing education branch of the University of California, Berkeley. Extension offers more than 2,000 courses per year in a variety of subjects both online and in the classroom. Extension's administrative departments and units include student records (transcripts), registration, scheduling, international student services, facilities, financial services, and the cashier's office. In addition to the main Berkeley center, it has responsibility for the maintenance and operation of regional centers in San Francisco (Spear Street), and Belmont and other leased facilities in the San Francisco Bay Area.


Responsibilities
  • Consults with department leaders and process owners to gather and clarify data and reporting requirements for highly-complex business intelligence solutions and analytics.
  • Develops marketing platforms to that guide Extension's multi-million dollar advertising spend within digital and traditional channels as well as content, website, and sales performance.
  • Applies advanced skills to produce in-depth forecasts, advanced statistical quantitative analyses, complex reports, data sets, and recommendations to support and enhance business /clinical processes.
  • Works on large projects with many data streams.
  • Researches and implements new methods that increase marketing impact including Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning tools (e.g. TensorFlow), social listening, sentiment analysis, web tracking, SEO.
  • Conducts industry benchmarking analysis to identify best practices and client performance or capability gaps. Develops and presents quantitiative business cases to managers and senior leaders.
  • Standardizes reporting across all Extension by developing best-in-class tools including Google Insights and Tableau.
  • Analyzes and troubleshoots highly-complex data errors and problems, designing, testing, and applying advanced functional solutions.
  • Ensures seamless integration across a variety of systems and platforms including Salesforce, Pardot, Google Analytics 360, Facebook, Instagram, Destiny, BIRS, and BIRT in order to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
  • Evaluates data sources for relevance, integrity and accuracy. Identifies issues and collaborates on solutions to data management challenges.
  • In partnership with Extension IT and UCB IT, conceives, designs, implements and oversees the marketing technology infrastructure in order to drive student recruiting and business insights with particular attention paid to building automation.
  • Serves on committees and participates on cross-functional teams to solve complex business, process, service and / or systems issues.
  • Serves as consultant for advanced analytics and business intelligence best practices for service, performance, and documentation.

Required Qualifications
  • In-depth knowledge of business intelligence functions, advanced analytics, industry standards and best practices.
  • Advanced knowledge and skill in internal databases, BI applications, tools, and systems.
  • Advanced critical thinking and problem-solving skills to manage highly-complex information, assess problems, and develop effective solutions.
  • Advanced organizational and project management skills.
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey complex information in a clear, concise manner.
  • Ability to produce and deliver presentations to diverse audiences.
  • Advanced interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with managers, professional and technical staff.
  • Ability to serve as an advanced technical leader providing advice, counsel, and analysis on business intelligence issues.
  • Solid knowledge of digital marketing best practices, concepts, and strategies
  • Knowledge of paid digital advertising channels & tools, including Google AdWords (search and display), Google Webmaster Tools, Facebook Ads, and/or programmatic ads.
  • Familiarity with Google Analytics or any other web analytics platform, including creating custom reports and troubleshooting common issues
  • Familiarity with SEO best practices.
  • Passion for educational products and continuing education.

Education/Training:

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in senior IT or marketing role.
  • Advanced training in business.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in engineering.

Salary & Benefits

This is an exempt, monthly paid position. Annual salary is commensurate with experience.
