Job Description

The School of Education at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) announces its search for one of two Assistant Professor (tenure-track) positions in Counseling Psychology, housed in the Division of Counseling and Educational Psychology (CEP), beginning Fall 2020. The area of expertise is open, although for this position, we are especially interested in applicants who have a strong commitment to supervision and training. The individual selected for the position will join a dedicated and collaborative group of faculty and staff. The doctoral program in Counseling Psychology is accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA).

The duties and responsibilities require teaching, research, and service. Specifically, the position entails instructing two three-credit graduate courses per semester (fall and spring), contributing to the supervision and training of master’s and doctoral students, and conducting an active research program that contributes to the program’s commitment to diversity and social justice and has the potential to secure grant funding.

Now is an exciting time to join the School of Education as we engage in strategic planning and strengthen key entities designed to serve the community, including the Urban Education Research Center, Regional Professional Development Center, and Institute for Urban Education. The School is accredited by the Accreditation Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) at the initial-licensure level. It serves as a major institutional partner to school districts and community agencies across Kansas City.

As a public urban-serving research institution, UMKC is located in the heart of Kansas City. As the Paris of the Plains, UMKC resides in the center of the “New Midwest.”

Major Responsibilities:

  • Advise and mentor graduate students
  • Conduct an active program of research and scholarship
