The Division of Development and Alumni Relations supports and promotes the mission, purpose, and priorities of the University of Miami through fundraising and engagement by building and nurturing strategic philanthropic relationships to improve and transform the lives of individuals and communities. General Overview:

The Director of Grateful Patient Engagement Programs will oversee the creation, implementation, and management of the UHealth System grateful patient and family fundraising program. The goals are to operationalize a program that builds a pipeline of grateful patient prospects and revenue, engages clinicians, administrators, volunteers and others in the grateful patient process, and assists in creating a culture of gratitude throughout UHealth System. The Director will drive the implementation with a focus on a set of key performance indicators, such as, number of educated clinicians, number of engaged clinicians, number of grateful patient referrals, number of visits by gift officers, number of qualified prospects, number of proposals, value of proposals, number of closed gifts, and value of closed gifts, along with other key measures. The individual will also be involved in annual fund, major gift, communication and operational projects for the program.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic oversite for patient engagement opportunities, including panels, lectures, lab tours and other opportunities to engage grateful patients in a broad manner across the health system.
  • Develop speaking programs for panels including working with physicians on presentation skills for audiences with little to no scientific background.
  • In partnership with communications, drive online engagement strategy through identification of patient giving stories and other social media engagement strategies.
  • Devise strategies to engage grateful patients and inspire them to get involved.
  • Work with Medical Development leadership to assist in the implementation of the grateful patient fundraising program.
  • Work with the Division of Development and Alumni Relations Operations’ team on the design, development, implementation and measurement of the infrastructure components of the grateful patient fundraising program.
  • Meet with UHealth representatives, and leaders, including but not limited to, senior executives, department chairs, division heads, program directors, administrators, physicians, nurses and others to strengthen and expand the grateful patient fundraising program.
  • Coordinate the training and educational initiatives of the program across the system.
  • Collaborate with the donor experience team and medical development leadership to design and implement a best-in-class stewardship program for grateful patient donors.
  • Collaborate with Medical Development leadership and others to develop materials for the grateful patient fundraising program, especially for increasing the visibility of the program
  • Provide a quarterly report to Medical Development leadership on the success of the grateful patient fundraising program.
  • Design clinician recognition programs to highlight the success of clinicians working in the program.
  • Participation in regular Medical Development meetings as directed. Attends events/special functions as requested.
  • Ensure HIPAA compliance in the implementation and operation of the program.

Qualifications:

Five years of experience in a development position. Preferential consideration will be given to candidates with a history working in a healthcare organization, especially in grateful patient fundraising programs.

Candidates should demonstrate the following skills and qualifications:

  • Proven ability to motivate, engage and work with volunteers. patients, donors and senior staff or similar constituencies
  • Demonstrated proficiency at driving strategic direction and creating thoughtful engagement opportunities for key prospects and donors with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, while setting and achieving established goals
  • Capable of independently setting priorities and managing expectations of senior leaders
  • Highly organized with the ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative
  • Strong understanding of Major Gifts fundraising principles and practices
  • Comprehensive understanding of coordination and execution of a lecture, panel or similar engagement opportunity.
  • Ability to segment, prioritize, and oversee projects across a variety of cross-functional teams
  • Experience writing materials and briefings for donors and staff, as well as a sophisticated sense of donor and patient engagement tactics
  • Excellent project management skills and exceptional communications skills
  • Knowledge of the Miami healthcare landscape and of the UHealth System, Miller Medical School and the University of Miami, preferred
  • Possess integrity and a strong sense of professional ethics
  • Ability to work effectively in a large, complex, dynamic and sophisticated organization
  • Collegial attitude and commitment to the mission of the UHealth System, Miller Medical School and the University of Miami.
  • Computer literacy in MS Office and experience with Windows and databases required
  • Prior development experience at a major academic medical center is preferable
  • Exemplary written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to speak and write in a clear, concise and convincing manner for the intended audience
  • Raisers Edge (CRM) experience preferred
  • A team-oriented approach to colleagues and a proven ability to manage people in a positive and constructive environment as well as the ability to establish effective working relationships with senior medical leadership are essential.
