Position Summary:Post doctoral research in host-microbe symbiosis and gut microbiome homeostasis in omnivorous cockroaches.
Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification in Position:A PhD in life sciences. Preferred qualifications include a PhD in microbiology, bioinformatics, or related field. Experience in one or more of the following: host-microbe symbioses, ‘omics of microbial communities (metagenomics, metatranscriptomics, or metabolomics), isolation and characterization of novel organisms and/or microbial degradation of complex carbohydrates.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies :Duties include: 80%: Conducting experiments to evaluate host and microbial contributions to cockroach handgun microbial community stability, analysis of bioinformatic data generated during the course of said experiments and preparation of manuscripts communicating results of experiments.

Physical Demands:Work at a computer for long periods of time with occasional breaks, stand for up to 2 hours at a time, and lift and carry up to 20 lbs. This position entails sufficient vision and fine motor control to handle and dissect insects and to perform laboratory work, including precise liquid measurement and sterile handling techniques.
