The Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering (CBE) at the University of California, Berkeley, seeks applications for a full-time associate or full adjunct professor with an expected start date of January 1, 2020. The position will serve at the Director of the new Bio-Process Engineering Masters Program (BPE). The Department consistently ranks among the top research and teaching programs in the country and continues to be at the forefront in developing programs in emerging areas of chemical and biomolecular engineering and technology. Creative and energetic individuals who show extraordinary promise or accomplishment in teaching; research; professional competence and activity; and university and public service within the field of chemical or biological engineering will be considered. This position is subject to a 2- to 3-year review and reappointment and is supported by the BPE program funding.
The BPE Program Director has complete management, leadership and day-to-day operational responsibilities for the ongoing financial viability for the program: hiring teaching faculty, establishing and managing the program's operating budget, making program PDST tuition level recommendations to the Dean, program marketing, curriculum development and delivery, student career advising and referral services vendor selection, providing design oversight on program infrastructure and space needs, fundraising, industry relations (e.g. student field projects, industry speakers) and alumni relations. The director is responsible for teaching BPE core courses and the position requires continuous engagement in research in chemical and biomolecular engineering. Project work for BPE necessitates the Director to create and sustain relationships with biotech industries.
