The Office of Technical and Educational Support Services's mission is to provide excellence in educational technology services supporting faculty, staff, students, and community clients at Georgetown University Medical Center

As part of the Technical and Educational Support Services team (housed in the School of Medicine), the Audio-Visual Technician ensures that daily operational educational technology needs are met.

Duties of the Audio-Visual Technician include, but are not limited to:
  • Handles operational tasks including checkout, delivery, set-up and pick-up of audiovisual equipment.
  • Operates audiovisual equipment and computer systems for designated presentations and events.
  • Conducts routine inspections of classroom audiovisual systems and equipment and performs regular preventative maintenance.
  • Provides daily maintenance and upkeep of the Integrated Learning Center (ILC) Exam rooms, as well as the Lecture/Seminar rooms in the ILC.
  • Prepares and monitors the events of the ILC from the control room using multiple monitors and is responsible for the hard disc recordings. Performs in-depth diagnostic and maintenance actions on computer systems.
  • Performs related administrative tasks such as front-desk and phone coverage; assists with supplies management and property inventory control.
  • Provides weekly reports on the status of audiovisual systems in classrooms, auditoria, and ILC.
  • Selects, trains, and supervises student assistants so that they are knowledgeable, skilled, helpful and productive. Assists faculty with lecture capture functionality

This position plays an important role in maintaining quality control and providing high-level customer service to relevant stakeholders by:
  • Ensuring that all audiovisual equipment and computer systems in classrooms and in the Integrated Learning Center are checked, prepared correctly, and run trouble free. If trouble is experienced, the problem is communicated to the Senior Audio-Visual Technician
  • Ensuring that all Clinical Center Exams are properly recorded for instructors and examiners future viewing.
  • Providing archived files of the CRC recordings for the instructors and students to review.
  • Ensuring that all requested audiovisual and computer equipment is delivered and picked from classrooms on time.
  • Ensuring that requested audiovisual and computer equipment is set-up on time and ready to go for the patrons at the scheduled time and location.
  • Ensuring that requested audiovisual and recording equipment is set-up on time and functioning properly before the clinical exams.

This position engages with a wide range of stakeholders in the following ways:
  • Directly supports teaching, learning and research needs of the faculty, students and staff in the classroom setting by delivering technology and media to enhance pedagogy.
  • Consults with faculty, students and staff to ensure that the proper technology is selected and in proper working order.
  • Consults with staff and other service providers to ensure that faculty, students and staff have access to the resources needed to enhance teaching, learning and research.
  • Trains faculty, students and staff in the effective use of technology, electronic, audio-visual and multimedia resources in the classroom environment.
  • Directly supports teaching, learning and research needs of the faculty, students and staff in the classroom setting by delivering technology and media to enhance pedagogy.
  • Directly supports the Integrated Learning Center instructors while the examinations are in progress.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum of two years experience in an audio-visual technician role; experience in higher education setting preferred
  • Demonstrated expertise with computer, client layer and 1sttier networking technology in a networked environment.
  • Expertise with computer hardware, software, and peripherals.
  • Expertise with Operating System configurations for PC, Mac, O/S 10, Win 98 through Win XP.
  • Expert in using standard office applications, such as, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, web browsing, and anti virus software.
  • Ability to configure and troubleshoot custom built applications with unique hardware and network requirements.
  • Demonstrated expertise with audiovisual equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical problems.
  • Must be willing to learn and keep up-to-date with new technologies.
  • Ability to work well with diverse members of an academic medical center community
  • Dedication to customer service and quality improvement
