Additionally, R&DE comprises 735 FTE staff in the following divisions: the Office of the Senior Associate Vice Provost, Student Housing, Stanford Dining, Stanford Hospitality & Auxiliaries, Stanford Conferences, and a team of R&DE strategic business partners: Finance & Administration, Human Resources, Information Technology and Communications.

Plumbing/HVAC Maintenance and Electrical:-Under general supervision, performs journey level plumbing / HVAC maintenance and Electrical work.-Involved with the design/ engineering, installation, maintenance, operation, and repair of Housing and Dining Department plumbing systems, hot water tanks, heat exchangers, radiators, convectors, valves, pumps, and/or heating systems of all types, plumbing fixtures of all types, general plumbing and utility controls/ systems.-Responsible for the installation of various plumbing and hydronic systems, fixtures, and equipment which he/ she ensures are in compliance with all UPC, OSHA, and Manufacturer's requirements, standards, and codes.-Maintains and repairs all aspects of plumbing and HVAC such as: boilers, heat controls, heat exchangers, valves, and pumps.-Orders required materials in a timely way, to avoid work order delays/ rescheduling.
Plumbing-Checks and detects malfunction in plumbing systems.-Turns systems off safely and makes repairs as needed or notifies supervisor of problem.-Repairs as needed or notifies supervisor of problem.-Installs, maintains, and repairs domestic hot and cold water systems, including heating systems, boilers, hot water tanks, heat exchangers, radiators, valves, and pumps. -May install and maintain chilled water systems and related equipment, including pumps, valves, regulators, coils, tower cells, and strainers.-Installs, maintains, and repairs all types of plumbing fixtures and supply lines such as faucets, sinks, bathtubs, toilets, water heaters, and garbage disposals.-Installs and repairs gas lines and related equipment.-Installs, cleans, maintains, and repairs sanitary waste lines and storm drainage systems, using hard or power tools.-Cuts, bends, solder, threads, and assemble pipes and fittings. Joins pipe by using flanges, fittings solder, glue, or welding.-Install and repair pipe insulation systems.-Troubleshoot and correct plumbing systems and gas supply lines-Will sometimes include Surveys of old or defective plumbing systems with estimates material.
Mechanical and HVAC Duties:-Checks and repairs HVAC systems-Repairs low pressure hot water and heating boilers-Repairs and cleans heating system convectors.-Replace air filters and fan/drive belts-Lubricates motors and fans-Cleans and maintains motors and trouble shoot problem equipment-Bleeds hot water and steam heating systems.-Completes all PM&I tasks on HVAC systems as assigned and within the given time line.
Electrical Repair and Maintenance:-Under general supervision, performs Journey level electrical work involved with the design, installation, maintenance, operation and repair of Housing and Dining Department electrical equipment.-Replaces switches, receptacles, light fixtures, ballast's, and relamps light fixtures. -Does electrical repair on motors, switches, and controls. -Makes electrical hook-ups. -Performs PM&I on electrical equipment. Domestic appliance repairs of stoves and refrigerators.-Work includes any electrical function as described in the National Electrical Code. -Work is done on various voltages and distribution systems.-Perform extensive preventative maintenance, as well as to provide emergency response actions when needed in all areas of responsibility. -Responds to electrical equipment failures during off hours on a call back basis.-Completes all PM&I tasks required for safe and continuous operation of equipment as assigned and within the given time lines.
Pipefitting:-Basic fitting repair and maintenance.-PM&I tasks as assigned and within the given timeline.
Performs Multi-trade repair and maintenance duties as assigned:-When directed, responds to requests for repair and maintenance outside of normal work tasks.-Maintains electronic work orders assigned through PDA device.-Notifies supervisor when follow up work is necessary or additional resources are required.
Other Responsibilities include but are not limited to: -Estimate jobs, determine job scope, and prioritize accordingly.-Ensures compliance with OSHA, Universal Plumbing Code, Uniform Mechanical Code and manufacture’s requirements, standards, and Codes.-Maintains and repairs all aspects of plumbing, heating, and ventilation and HVAC equipment.-All work is conducted to ensure high quality workmanship and all equipment (including electrical systems) is serviced to industry standards.-Completes all PM&I tasks as assigned and within the given time frame.-When directed, responds to requests for repair and maintenance outside of normal work tasks.-Maintains electronic work orders assigned through PDA device.-Assists PM Program Manager in providing equipment/asset data information to keep program current and up to date.-Notifies supervisor when follow up work is necessary or additional resources are required.-Provides high quality workmanship in tasks performed.-Responsible for safe work habits and identification and reporting of unsafe conditions are required by law.-Maintain harmonious relations with co-workers, residents and other staff members.-Responsible for keeping building and equipment up to Stanford’s standards. -Ensure high quality workmanship serviced to industry standards.-Correctly inspects and troubleshoots systems for malfunctions.-Lays out work appropriately.-Orders materials in a timely manner, to avoid work order delays / rescheduling.-Demonstrate ability to follow appropriate protocol to keep all tools, equipment and keys secure at all times Position Performance Characteristics: -Output/Quality: Responsible for meeting time and volume requirements in an accurate, reliable and professional manner. Produce high- quality work that meets established standards and assures the efficient use of resources.
-Work Habits: Reports to work in a timely manner as scheduled. Exercise care in use of equipment, material and capitol assets. Complies with all safety protocols and procedures including as required. Demonstrates the ability to complete assigned tasks, meets deadlines, thinks and acts effectively and responds to changes in procedures, processes, responsibilities, and assignments in a positive manner.
-Communication Skills/Interpersonal Skills: Communicates verbally and or in writing efficiently with a variety of other people as necessary. Acts as an effective team player. Participates in maintaining a positive and productive work environment.-Initiative and Execution: Demonstrates the ability to originate constructive and appropriate action to achieve desires results. Provide follow-through action to achieve desire in a timely manner.-Customer Service: Maintain a positive service attitude and approach to students, faculty, staff and visitors to the University. Performs assigned duties in such a way to contribute to internal/external customer satisfaction and confidence in the services provided. Working Conditions:-Work areas are inside/interior and outside/exterior Student Housing and Dining facilities.

Physical Activities Required to Perform Essential Functions:-This position is considered moderately to highly physical and requires a lot of standing, bending, lifting and walking.-Able to stoop, kneel, carry, push and pull, ascend/descend stairs, climb on ladders, climb on roofs, and crawl in confined spaces on a regular basis.-The ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.-Works in all types of weather inside and outside. -Respond to emergency calls at night or on weekends. -Wears respirator and other protective safety equipment and clothing as needed
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:-Knowledge and ability to use and work with various and tools materials found in the work place required to complete the task.-Ability to work independently and with little supervision.-Ability to read and follow blueprints.-Appropriately follows oral and written directions.-Ability to troubleshoot and correct plumbing systems and gas supply lines.-Ability to install and maintain plumbing equipment, fixtures and appliances.-Ability to install and maintain sanitary waste line drains, and storm drains systems.-Ability to troubleshoot and repair hydronic heating/plumbing systems.-Ability to troubleshoot and repair all HVAC equipment.-Skilled in electrical systems and equipment.-Knowledge in basic steam fitting repair and maintenance.-Experience working with brass, steel, cast iron, copper, glass and plastic piping.-Knowledge of building codes in the trade. May be called upon on to help in other trades.
-Capable of learning and applying safe work practices and procedures, including but not limited to: Class III asbestos work, proper use and care of respirators, hazardous waste management and handling, lockout tag out procedures, Injury and Illness Prevention Program, Confined Space procedures, CPR, and chemical safe practices.
Qualifications:

-High School Diploma Required

-Journey level knowledge and skills in: Plumbing, HVAC and electrical systems.

-Available to work variable shifts at nights or weekends.

-Ability to respond to emergency calls at night or on weekends

-Valid California driver’s license

-3 years work experience in related field
