Description:
The Pennsylvania Wildlife Futures Program at New Bolton Center (NBC), Department of Pathobiology, University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine invites applicants for a faculty position in Wildlife Disease Ecology in the Clinician Educator (CE) track. The Penn Vet Pennsylvania Wildlife Futures Program at NBC located in Kennett Square, PA, is integrated with the Pennsylvania Animal Diagnostic Laboratory System (PADLS). This scientist will focus on developing and applying quantitative research approaches to understanding and managing wildlife disease processes, as well as diseases at the wildlife-domestic-human interface. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with Pennsylvania Game Commission biologists and Pennsylvania Wildlife Futures Program staff at Penn Vet to develop rigorous disease surveillance and response plans, conduct and coordinate applied research, and generate state-of-the-art simulation and statistical models to understanding the critical drivers of disease and its spread, predict future disease states, and determine appropriate interventions for the protection and improvement of human, domestic animal and ecosystem health. Publication of collaborative research findings in peer-reviewed journals, representing the Program at professional meetings and trainings, and assisting with educational and outreach activities will all be expected. Applicants must have a PhD and/or veterinary degree and a history of hands-on work with wildlife. In addition to excellent communication and writing skills, a track record of wildlife expertise and the ability to develop an investigator-driven research program are required. Salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s training and experience.
