The Business School has an opening for a full-time University Staff (unclassified) J.P. Morgan Center for Commodities (JPMCC) Program Manager position.

The J.P. Morgan Center for Commodities (JPMCC) at the University of Colorado Denver Business School is the first center of its kind focused on a broad range of commodities, including agriculture, energy, and mining. Established in 2012, this innovative center provides educational programs and research in commodities markets, regulation, trading, financial fundamentals, investing, risk management, and ethics. The JPMCC aims to become the global leader in commodities research and education.
The JPMCC has three primary directives:  Attract and educate highly-qualified students through degree programs (MBA specialization / MS-Finance Specialization/ BS Certificate), serve as a leader in commodities and professional education, and research.  
This position is an integral and contributing member of the JPMCC and the Commodities Program. The position reports to the Executive Director JPMCC and works directly with the Academic Program Director and Research Director. This position is responsible for the execution of day-to-day operations of the Commodities Program and supports the Executive, Academic Program and Research Directors in all areas of the Center and the Academic Program. This individual also participates in the support and production of all program courses and similar activities. This individual maintains the JPMCC budget and related financial matters and also prepares reports for JPMCC and organizes JPMCC meetings.

Supervision Received
Reports directly to the Executive Director of JPMCC, and also required to work directly with JPMCC Academic Program Director and JPMCC Research Director.

Examples of Work Performed
  • Work with the JPMCC’s Executive Director, Academic Program Director, and Research Director to formulate strategies and new directives
  • Demonstrate Bloomberg software capabilities to prospective students and donors
  • Participates in general Business School recruitment, e.g., giving tours and presentations 
  • Manage existing relationships/partnerships within CU Denver regarding professional education, scholarships, admissions, tuition, etc.; 
  • Collaborate in creating new activities of the Center – e.g., internship formation and scholarship management, creation of applied research, managing logistics of a professional education and marketing new academic courses, etc.
  • Develop and execute innovative strategies for attracting students to the Commodities program,  e.g.,in-class presentations, Business School open houses, and promotional materials.
  • Attend networking events and cultivate relationships with industry leaders, businesses, donors and potential students
  • Manage communications with our Advisory Council, Research Council, business partners and guests of the Center
  • Organize shadow days, one-day full emersion experience for students at local businesses
  • Co-create marketing materials for JPMCC.
  • Serve as the key organizer for JPMCC events
  • Assist in the planning and execution of outreach and career planning events,  e.g., speaker series, workshops, etc.
  • Oversee JPMCC guest travel arrangements 
  • Manage external communications, act as the first point of contact for inquiry from students, professors, and community
  • Maintain the JPMCC and Commodities Center email system and handles all inquiries Manage the JPMCC website, including scholarships, upcoming semester course offerings, and other advertising
  • Communicate and coordinate with JPMCC Executive, Program, and Research Directors in the production and distribution of professional and academic presentations.
  • Coordinate, process,  and approve purchases and payments of the JPMCC 
  • Implement vendor contracts, invoicing, and payments via university accounts payable system
  • Create and Maintain the JPMCC’s budget and reports, in collaboration with relevant Business School and university departments 
  • Administer donor funds by the donor’s wishes, admissions, and scholarships.
  • Coordinate and execute the administrative requirements for faculty, lecturer and guest speaker contracts, faculty and course evaluations. Administer billing and invoicing for D2 (academic) and D3 (non-academic) courses
  • Maintain supplies, articles, books, computers, software, LCD, furniture, copiers, and equipment used by the JPMCC and the Commodities Program 
  • Manage courses in CU-SIS and direct students on registration procedures
  • Facilitate production of (GCARD) and Global Commodity Issues on the SSRN network.  
  • Collect and organize syllabi information from similar programs nationwide 
  • Serve on the Continuing Professional Education committee 
  • Assist faculty with commodities classes, including identifying guest speakers, site visits, and local events.
Salary and Benefits:
The hiring range for this position begins at $58,000 and is commensurate with skills and experience.

QualificationsMinimum Requirements
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Marketing, Management, Accounting or a related field 
  • A minimum of two years of experience in office operations, including budgets, procurement and/or advertising
  • One year of experience in planning and executing events.
Preferred Requirements
  • A Master’s Degree in a Business field is preferred due to the nature of the position and the level of the university,  Business School, and external parties this person will interact with regularly 
  • Experience with PeopleSoft finance and procurement, especially in a higher education setting.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Proficiency in MS Office, such as PowerPoint, MS Word, Excel, MS Project, and other productivity programs. 
  • Proficiency in web-based and other research databases and the interpretation of data and trends is required. 
  • Proficiency with Bloomberg terminals for teaching
  • Must be sensitive to and appreciative of cultural, political, and geographical differences and work well with faculty and students from around the world. 
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently supervise student workers and work well with superiors.   
  • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals with a minimum of supervision.
