Position Description:
Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the SRA will assist with ongoing clinical studies related to scientific priorities of the unit, e.g., Human Papillomavirus infections and related malignant and premalignant conditions, and HIV infection. Assists with recruitment of study participants for clinical and basic science studies. Assist providers with clinical exam procedures of all subjects using standard operating procedures and experimental protocols approved by the UCLA IRB and external funding agencies. Coordinates specimen acquisition and processing with project research staff and various clinical labs and outside specimen sources.
As part of routine clinical studies, collects medical history data from subjects, including comfort and ability to speak frankly about sensitive medical data and sexual activities. Maintains standardized procedures for obtaining preauthorization of activities in mixed billing clinical studies in accordance with UCLA and UCLAHealth policies, the U.S. Office of the Inspector General and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (including the National Institutes of Health) policies. Maintains organized records for all binding activities set forth by the funding agency: e.g., health service preauthorization (and denials), collection and disbursement of clinical specimens (e.g., cell and body fluid specimens and tissue collected for biobanks and UCLAHealth clinical departments).
Interact with other personnel in the office and laboratory. Monitor processing, storage, and disposal of biological specimens, and maintain appropriate certification in compliance with UCLA Environmental Health Services policies. Prepare specimens for shipment according to International Air Transport Association (IATA) standards. The SRA will also manage breeding colonies as well as implement animal study research protocol. Have own transportation to drive to three study sites within LA County. Have strong communication skills.
