Job Description

 

  • Develops, implements, and coordinates the services provided by the NAU-Yuma Student Success Center.
  • Completes enrollment profiles; develops and monitors individual student success plans.
  • Reviews assessment results with students and plans interventions as needed.
  • Monitors academic progress, provides case management services, and refers students to the appropriate academic and support units.
  • Supervises academic mentoring, tutoring, and related academic support services.
  • Recruits and supervises Student Success Center staff and coordinates all staff training.
  • Prepares periodic reports on the services of the Student Success Center.
  • Evaluates program effectiveness, analyzes results, and recommends and/or takes appropriate action.
  • Provides a student-centered environment that offers services to students in collaboration with educational partners in the region.
  • Explores career goals with students and provides information on degree pathways.
  • Provides first and second year individualized support for students planning to transition to NAU Yuma.
  • Assists in preparation of grant proposals to support student services.
  • Participates on NAU-Yuma’s campus and departmental committees as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

NAU is currently engaged in an Organizational Growth and Effectiveness Initiative, which focuses on positioning the University for future success of its operational practices. Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in field appropriate to area of assignment AND two years administrative/coordinative program experience; OR,
  • Six years of progressively responsible administrative coordinative program experience; OR,
  • Any equivalent combination of experience, training and education.


Preferred Qualifications

  • A master's degree in education or related field
  • Two years' experience in personnel management
  • Three years' experience with higher education advising, transfer, and/or student services
  • Two years’ experience working with Hispanic and first-generation students
  • Bilingual English/Spanish
  • Familiarity with AVID for Higher Education


Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Knowledge of procedures, operations, organizational structures, and principles of higher education institutions including enrollment marketing, admissions, retention, and best practices in service to stakeholders.
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills (e.g., presentations, training materials development, public relations, face-to-face interaction, consensus building, and public speaking) with demonstrated ability to speak (in small and large group settings) and to write clearly and persuasively.
  • Ability to understand and overcome obstacles via strong skills in problem solving, customer service, networking, and relationship building.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, coordination, and follow-up skills; demonstrated ability to establish priorities and successfully handle multiple projects concurrently.
  • Skill in reporting and evaluating data; commitment to keeping sensitive information confidential.
  • Good computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office and other standard software programs.
  • A high degree of personal accountability with the ability to meet deadlines; work independently and as part of a team; build consensus; and manage potentially ambiguous situations.
  • The ability to work independently (as well as a member of a team) with minimal supervision and with a commitment to professionalism, accountability, focus, and teamwork.
  • A strong commitment to assisting students in realizing their goals through higher education.
  • Understanding of higher education learning principles, processes, and systems all focused on helping learners exceed expectations and on improving retention and program completion.
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to diversity issues related to effective communication and interaction with persons from diverse cultural backgrounds and non-traditional students of all age ranges, social backgrounds, and experience levels.

Background Information

 

Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, an employment history verification and a degree verification (in some cases) prior to employment. You may also be required to complete a fingerprint background check.

Additionally, as an employer in the state of Arizona, NAU is required to participate in the federal E-Verify program that assists employers with verifying new employees' right to work in the United States.

 

Finally, each year the Northern Arizona University Police Department releases an annual security report. The report is a result of the federal law known as the Clery Act and contains policy statements that address the school’s policies, procedures and programs concerning safety and security including policies for responding to emergency situations and sexual offenses. The report contains three years of data for Clery reportable crime statistics for the campus along with the most current year’s Fire Safety Report, which includes policy statements and fire statistics for Flagstaff on-campus student housing.

Salary

This position's pay grade is 43. The salary range for this paygrade can be found on the CLS Grade Schedule.

 

**The starting salary will be determined by the qualifications of the selected applicant balanced with departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.

 


FLSA Status

This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.

This is a Classified Staff (CLS) position.
