Vice President for Finance and Administration

Job no: 496486
Position type: full-time
Location: Lewisburg, PA
Categories: Finance / Business Support

Bucknell University invites nominations and applications for the position of Vice President, Finance and Administration.

Reporting to President John Bravman, the Vice President for Finance and Administration (VPFA) has six direct reports, serves as the chief financial officer for the University, and oversees Finance and Accounting, Investments, Procurement, Contract Management, Community Relations, Facilities, Sustainability, Treasury, Events Management, and Public Safety. The VPFA manages the University’s $300 million operating budget, $865 million endowment as of December 31, 2018, and a net of $62 million in financial aid. The new VPFA will oversee the campus master plan and will work closely with the Board of Trustees’ Audit and Risk Management, Finance, and Investment Committees. The VPFA will play a key role in implementing strategic priorities and managing related finances.

The successful candidate will have outstanding financial and administrative management skills, experience in endowment management, a record of building and leading diverse teams, and a demonstrated commitment to the advancement of an innovative institution devoted to liberal arts and professional programs. Candidates must demonstrate a successful track record of communicating effectively with a range of internal and external constituencies and clear enthusiasm to be an active participant in a thriving academic community.

Given Bucknell’s unique nature as a 3,600-student (3,600 full-time undergraduates and 60 full- and part-time graduate students) national university where the liberal arts and professional programs complement each other, the Vice President must also work flexibly and intelligently across the three colleges – Arts & Sciences, Engineering, and the Kenneth E. Freeman College of Management – in an environment of significant size and complexity. Bucknell has in recent years accomplished many major milestones: adopting the “By Way of Bucknell” branding platform, completing the successful implementation of Workday for finance, human resources, and payroll, undergoing a strategic plan implementation, and completing extensive market research regarding its prospective students. The new VPFA will join the University during a new and ambitious era, as Bucknell contemplates its next capital campaign, prepares to implement its ambitious plans, and aspires to become even more visible nationally and globally for its unique and significant impact on the world.

Bucknell is located in central Pennsylvania about three hours from New York City, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, D.C., and Pittsburgh. The borough (pop. 5,800) features restaurants, beautifully maintained Victorian homes, the restored art deco Campus Theatre (owned by the University), shops and boutiques, and Barnes & Noble at Bucknell University Bookstore. As one of the largest employers in the Susquehanna Valley, Bucknell regularly partners with other major institutions and local and state governments to improve the region. Bucknell’s students and world-class faculty collaborate on research with the Geisinger Health System and take the lead in studying the Susquehanna River. The institution serves as a hub in a fiber-optic network that spans Pennsylvania.
