The Department of Sociology and Anthropology invites applications to fill a tenure-track appointment in Sociology at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning September 2020.

We seek candidates who are well-grounded in sociological theory. Preference will be given to applicants with an emphasis in one or more of our core areas of departmental strength – health and environment, urban-rural inequalities, urban sociology, work and inequality, and social movements. We seek candidates who will maintain active research programs, including actively seeking external funding; contribute to both graduate and undergraduate teaching; and provide service to the department and the profession. It is expected that this person will also help us build links to programs at the university. The ideal candidate’s scholarship and teaching should reflect an intersectional methodological and theoretical lens. Candidates are expected to teach in the department’s core curriculum, including Introduction to Sociology, Sociological Theory, as well as an array of Sociology elective courses in their area of specialization that contribute to the missions of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology. Initial teaching load is 3/3.

Applicants are expected to have a Ph.D. in sociology by the start of employment, and present evidence of excellence in teaching and research. Appointment is contingent on the university’s verification of credentials and other information required by law and/or university policies, including but not limited to a criminal background check.

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) is the second largest college at Rowan University with seven departments, seven interdisciplinary programs, and seventeen majors.
