Requires are least a high school diploma or equivalent. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications

Must have at least ten years of Security or Law Enforcement experience.
Must have and maintain a valid Unarmed Security Officers certification.
Must be able to respond to after hours security incidents.

Position Summary

This position involves routine work in safeguarding university buildings and property against damage or loss. Work involves patrolling buildings and grounds in an assigned area and observing for prowlers, fires, equipment failures, and other irregularities and insuring parking regulations are followed. The employee works independently in accordance with established procedures; a supervisor may spot check work. This individual will be a member of the staff of the UGA Griffin Campus Office of Academic Affairs and will report to the Assistant Provost for the UGA Griffin Campus and will take directions from Facilities Management Division as to daily duties and responsibilities. This is a full-time position that requires some flexibility in working hours to accommodate student and faculty needs. The duties and responsibilities listed herein are representative and may be altered or adapted to reflect the changing needs of the UGA Griffin campus.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

Some knowledge of the building and grounds patrolled, and of the location and operation of utilities.
-Exercise alertness and judgement to detect, and if necessary, to report probable danger or loss or injury to life and property.
-Deal effectively with employees, students, and any possible prowlers and trespassers.
-Walk for several hours during each shift.
-CPR certified or ability to become CPR certified within 6 months of employment.
-Maintain CPR certification during employment.
-Successfully complete Stop the Bleed training or ability to complete Stop the Bleed training within 6 months of employment.
-Supervisory experience
-Coordinate with first responder agencies such as law enforcement, fire, and EMS as needed.
-Communicate over the phone, understand security needs relayed over the phone and understand the appropriate response.
-Know university policies and regulations regarding conduct and access.
-Communicate effectively in oral and written communication including ability to write coherent, succinct e-mails, reports, and other written communication.

Enforce security and vehicular procedures per campus standards. Maintain a high profile of security presence and serve campus students, employees, and visitors. Provide escort upon request for students, faculty, or staff as they traverse the campus..

Secure premises and personnel by patrolling; monitoring surveillance equipment; inspecting buildings’ equipment, and access points; watching for prowlers, fires, equipment failures, and other irregularities.

Serves as a liaison for campus with both local police and fire department being able and willing to assist Law Enforcement when appropriate. Investigate security related incidents.
