Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Serve as library liaison to the Parkinson School of Health Sciences and Public Health and Loyola Medical Center allied health professionals
• Collaborate with faculty and researchers to identify needs and design and implement services, programs, and training to meet information needs on an evolving basis
• Provide online and in-person reference and research support including specialized search services to biomedical and data scientists, clinical faculty, and students
• Work with HSL research and education librarians to develop and deliver library orientation and instructional materials including courses, guides, modules and tutorials in the learner’s preferred format
• Actively promote existing library resources, services and programs to constituents
• Participate in information services delivery via assigned shifts at a busy Service Desk where customer service is top priority
• Recommend biomedical resources that anticipate customer needs for assigned liaison groups to the Electronic Resources and Collection librarian
• Work with the Associate Director/Public Services to collect and analyze metrics for assigned service areas
• Works with the Associate Director to schedule and update library assigned shifts at the Service Desk
• Works with the Associate Director to support library assessment by entering daily census and electronics loans usage data into the Access database
• Coordinate health sciences library purchases and payments
• Prepares requisitions, purchase orders and processes special orders; processes invoices for payment
• Submits and tracks vendor invoices to relevant department. Works with Purchasing and Accounts Payable to ensure timely document receipt for payment and to resolve problems
• Records, tracks and updates receipt and payment of goods and services in the library budget spreadsheet. Corresponds with their correspond with vendors, Purchasing, Accounts Payable and relevant library staff to reconcile discrepancies in the library budget spreadsheet
• Submits and tracks budget transfers on the HSL budget spreadsheet.
• Works with Purchasing to identify and resolve outstanding commitments
• Deposits and documents payment received for interlibrary loan transactions into the interlibrary loan account
• Scans and maintains archival budget documentation and related files
• Orders and tracks library/office/photocopier supplies including first floor bathrooms and group and Quiet Study rooms
• Schedules maintenance calls for all library photocopiers and fax/scanners as needed
• Serve on relevant University committees and represent the library at national and regional meetings
• Performs other duties as required

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• Master’s degree in library science or information science from an ALA-accredited institution or equivalent degree
• 1 – 3 years of professional library experience in an academic, research, or health sciences library
• Demonstrated experience and proficiency with a variety of biomedical databases and resources including PubMed, Scopus, Cochrane Library (EBM resources), and Google Scholar
• Ability to work effectively with researchers, clinicians, faculty and students and staff across the University and the community at large
• Experience with citation management software including RefWorks, EndNote and Mendeley
• Deep understanding of the research and scholarly needs and practices of the health sciences research and medical education communities
• Knowledge of information literacy and evidence based medicine principles and practices
• Demonstrated proficiency with search techniques across a broad base of health sciences and biomedical resources
• Demonstrated initiative, flexibility, and ability to work creatively and effectively in both collaborative and independent settings
• Ability to work as a team player in maintaining harmonious, cooperative working relationships with administrators, faculty, students, and staff
• Excellent presentation and instruction skills
• Detail-oriented with strong customer service and interpersonal relation skills
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to explain complex concepts to a wide range of users in individual and group settings
• Strong interest in the health sciences, the research enterprise and supporting researchers, faculty, staff and students in the educational journey of tomorrow’s health care professionals and their teachers

Preferred Qualifications

• Undergraduate or graduate degree in the health sciences
• Experience working with allied health sciences educators, practitioners and students
• Teaching experience including the application of adult learning theory to instructional materials
• Flexibility, creativity, and a sense of humor
• Positive attitude and enthusiasm for working with health care professionals and health care professionals in training
• Familiarity with learning management systems such as Sakai
• Experience with video conferencing software such as Adobe Connect or Zoom
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize in order to meet deadlines
• Demonstrated record of success
• Strong commitment to working in a diverse and collegial atmosphere that offers opportunities for innovation and professional growth
• Respect for the Catholic, Jesuit tradition and enthusiasm for the library mission, values, and vision

The Organization

Loyola University Chicago is a nationally recognized urban university founded in 1870 in the Jesuit, Catholic tradition. The Health Sciences Library located in Maywood, IL supports nursing, medical, graduate biomedical, bioethics, and public health education and the Loyola University Medical Center.

Position Summary

The Loyola University of Chicago Health Sciences Library Research/Education and Administrative Support librarian is collaborative and service-oriented, applying expertise and innovative approaches to designing and delivering research, instructional and information services in support of the Parkinson School of Health Sciences and Public Health and Loyola University Medical Center’s allied health professionals and educators. This new position offers an enthusiastic professional an exciting opportunity to design and deliver programming, services and training, and develop and nurture deep connections across liaison groups. Reporting to the Director, this detail-oriented librarian will support and enhance library productivity and efficiency by providing administrative support and outstanding customer service with library purchasing, payment, and scheduling.

Growth Potential

This is a non-tenured faculty position. Promotional opportunities are achieved through a rank and promotion process. Academic expression for this position is accomplished through contributions to teaching, publication, research or service to the profession of health sciences librarianship

Salary and Benefits

Salary is commensurate with qualifications based on Loyola University of Chicago pay scales. Loyola University Chicago offers a generous benefit program which may be reviewed online.
