Schar School Postdoctoral Fellow

 

The Schar School of Policy and Government at George Mason University is accepting applications for its first annual post-doctoral fellowship honoring the four founders of what was called The Institute of Public Policy (TIPP), which has been subsumed into the Schar School.

This year we honor Professor Emeritus Roger S. Stough. Applications must focus broadly on the theme of regional economic development. The postdoctoral fellow will receive a stipend of $60,000, a research and training allowance of up to $10,000, and moving expenses of up to $2,000. Fellowship candidates should expect to teach one course per semester. This should be incorporated into the proposal. Applications should be submitted electronically to Prof Jim Olds (jolds@gmu.edu) no later than February 1, 2020.

Eligibility

Fellowship candidates must meet all of the following eligibility requirements:

  • U.S. citizen, national, or legally admitted permanent resident alien of the United States as of the application deadline;
  • Doctoral degree in a field related to the focus area, no more than 24 months before the application deadline; and
  • Not be already in a full-time tenure-track faculty position.

Proposal Requirements

There are four required sections, not to exceed a total of 17 pages. These are (1) Project Summary including an overview, the intellectual merit of the project, and the broader impact of the project; (2) Project Description (Research and Training Plan) including a coherent plan for research and education and a description of the candidate’s long-term career goals and the role of this fellowship in achieving them; (3) References Cited listed in a format such as APA or another standard and accepted format (no page limit); and (4) Biographical Sketch including all information necessary to certify the Fellowship candidate’s eligibility.
