General Description
The Ambulatory Care Lead RN is a role developed to work in coordination with the nursing leadership in an assigned clinic/practice to ensure the work is accomplished effectively. The Ambulatory Care Lead RN is the first line support for staff, physicians and other related providers on service- specific clinical issues. The Ambulatory Care Lead RN is generally a long-term role, requiring clinical and interpersonal skills. The Ambulatory Care Lead RN collaborates with the manager on clinical and non-clinical issues (employee relations, individual behaviors, physician relationships, etc.). The Ambulatory Care Lead RN is the support for the clinic/practice when the manager is unavailable. The Clinical Team Leader is responsible for supervising, directing, coaching and mentoring their assigned core group of staff.

Job Duties
1. Perform tasks such as interviewing candidates, hiring staff, onboarding, competency validation, performance review preparations, payroll approval and attendance tracking, staff accountability with policies and staff education. Assist with maintenance of employee files according to standards. Facilitate staff meetings.
2. Provide patient care on an as needed basis to facilitate quality patient flow including but not limited to the following:
• Perform intake with patients to include vital signs, visit information, and other clinical information as indicated based on patient assessment.
• Manage telephone calls from patients, document encounter, follow protocols established by clinic leadership, and inform provider as indicated.
• Administer medications to patients as ordered by providers or by established protocols following the six rights of medication administration.
3. Collaborate with Charge Nurse to coordinate staffing and clinic workflow to facilitate quality patient flow and handle patient complaints related to the patient’s experience in the clinical area.
4. Provide oversight of clinic policies and procedures, Joint Commission, infection control, environment of care, and other regulatory standards.
5. Provide coordination and oversight for performance improvement projects in support of clinic metrics.
6. Provide oversight for ordering of medication, medical supplies and equipment for clinic.
7. Attend team planning and other meetings to facilitate quality clinic management and patient flow.
8. Manage clinic in the absence of Nurse Manager, and/or Health Center Administrator and perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Previous leadership experience in ambulatory care setting.
• Previous experience with Pediatric patient care, including knowledge of pediatric vaccination schedules as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control.

Education Requirements/Preferences
Work requires graduation from an accredited nursing program. Transferring to another job classification will require that all minimum qualifications of that job be met and will result in a loss of grandfathering status for this classification.

Experience Requirements/Preferences
Requires three years of nursing experience.

Licensure/Certification Requirements
Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. BLS required.

Education

Work requires graduation from an accredited nursing program with a BSN degree. Incumbents in this job classification effective onor before 10/01/2015 who currently hold an Associate's Degree in Nursing or a Nursing Diploma may remain in this classification under a "grandfathered" status. Transferring to another job classification will require that all minimum qualifications of that job be met and will result in a loss of grandfathering status for this classification.

Experience

Duke University was created in 1924 by James Buchanan Duke as a memorial to his father, Washington Duke. The Dukes, a Durham family that built a worldwide financial empire in the manufacture of tobacco products and developed electricity production in the Carolinas, long had been interested in Trinity College. Trinity traced its roots to 1838 in nearby Randolph County when local Methodist and Quaker communities opened Union Institute. The school, then named Trinity College, moved to Durham in 1892, where Benjamin Newton Duke served as a primary benefactor and link with the Duke family until his death in 1929.
