Occupational Summary

This position serves as a lead role in the office. The responsibilities include a variety of complex electronic financial transactions, analysis, and reconciliations. Coordinate the day to day collection efforts of student receivables, and oversee loan processes.

Work Performed

  1. Communicating and interacting with students, parents and departments to provide effective customer service, including receiving, researching and appropriately responding to inquiries and/or complaints with regards to their student loans – 10%

  • Compiling and analyzing information in support of program activities; preparing reports and analysis setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations. – 10%
  • Providing support and financial education to students through personal consultation both while at Duke and after graduation. – 20%
  • Coordinating the day to day collection efforts of the University’s institutional loans, and serve as the University liaison with outside agencies and vendors. – 40%
  • Serve as the point person to answer questions and counsel students at the Watts School of Nursing. -5%
  • Maintain student account information to assist agencies in the collection of outstanding loans from graduated or withdrawn students; and maintain relevant statistics for reporting and analysis. – 5%
  • Maintain knowledge of current and changing federal regulations regarding Title IV funds, and the student lending environment, communicate relevant information to other staff members on a regular basis. – 5%
  • Provide required loan disclosure statements and exit counseling information to students with institutional loans when they leave the university either by withdrawal or graduation. -5%
  • Education/Training: Work requires communications and analytical skills generally acquired through four years post-secondary education.

    Experience: Work generally requires three years of related experience of a progressively responsible nature to acquire demonstrated customer service, problem-solving, analytical and communication skills necessary to provide effective financial counseling service to customers. Such occupations may include account representative, customer service representative, loan officer or other similar occupations.

    Duke University was created in 1924 by James Buchanan Duke as a memorial to his father, Washington Duke. The Dukes, a Durham family that built a worldwide financial empire in the manufacture of tobacco products and developed electricity production in the Carolinas, long had been interested in Trinity College. Trinity traced its roots to 1838 in nearby Randolph County when local Methodist and Quaker communities opened Union Institute. The school, then named Trinity College, moved to Durham in 1892, where Benjamin Newton Duke served as a primary benefactor and link with the Duke family until his death in 1929. In December 1924, the provisions of indenture by Benjamin’s brother, James B. Duke, created the family philanthropic foundation, The Duke Endowment, which provided for the expansion of Trinity College into Duke University.Duke Campus

    As a result of the Duke gift, Trinity underwent both physical and academic expansion. The original Durham campus became known as East Campus when it was rebuilt in stately Georgian architecture. West Campus, Gothic in style and dominated by the soaring 210-foot tower of Duke Chapel, opened in 1930. East Campus served as home of the Woman's College of Duke University until 1972, when the men's and women's undergraduate colleges merged. Both men and women undergraduates now enroll in either the Trinity College of Arts & Sciences or the Pratt School of Engineering. In 1995, East Campus became the home for all first-year students.

    Duke maintains a historic affiliation with the United Methodist Church.
