Department Description

The primary purpose of the perinatal psychiatry research program in the Department of Psychiatry is to complete various research studies. Research studies may originate from industry or federal funds and may encompass a variety of funded and/or unfunded principal investigators. The perinatal research program will implement and carry out research projects in the hospitals and outlying clinics, including UNC, Rex and Wake County Health Department and various private doctors’ offices around the area.

Position Description

Position is located in UNC Panther Creek in Cary and Rex Hospital in Raleigh

This is a research assistant position – to be part of a group of research staff recruiting for various industry and government funded projects. Though responsibility is to specific projects, you are required to screen and be able to explain other research projects as well as obtain informed consent for them. There is mandatory phone on-call to be shared among the group – the specific time/number of hours is dependent on the number of staff available and the studies requiring on call. The position includes patient recruitment, data collection, specimen collection and processing – must be able to multitask.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

Must have clinical research experience or experience caring for obstetric clients. Must be expert in MS Office; very strong interpersonal skills; excellent written and verbal communication skills, must be able to work independently; must be able to analyze and interpret policy and procedural guidelines and apply those guidelines appropriately, must be skilled in organizing workflow and coordinating multiple priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

Working knowledge of the research principles and methods of data entry, collection, and analysis to complete defined assignments independently. Working knowledge of statistics and information technology to apply a variety statistical techniques and formulae in the collection and preparation of data/information related to defined research area.

Location: UNC is located in the heart of Chapel Hill, the best college town in America! It's a friendly town of about 40,000 in the geographical center of North Carolina. Chapel Hill is at the western point of the Research Triangle, an area of about one million people, comprised of Chapel Hill, the cities of Durham and Raleigh, and the Research Triangle Park, home of many corporate offices and scientific research centers. Carolina is about 30 miles from the state capital, Raleigh, and 20 minutes from Raleigh-Durham International Airport.
