The Metropolitan State University of Denver School of Hospitality is seeking a full-time tenured faculty member to chair a department of undergraduate programs in hospitality management. Strong candidates will be skilled in leadership, management, faculty development, scholarship, and teaching.

The University is particularly interested in applicants who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for under-represented groups.

Duties/Responsibilities

Leadership in Curriculum and Program Assessment
•Assists in and oversees curriculum development and implementation that are aligned to School of Hospitality mission, vision, and values.
•Provides leadership in creating a culture of assessment of academic curriculum and programs for continuous improvement.
•Working with data/assessment specialist, prepares required accreditation/program review reports to the university and outside agencies as necessary.
•Provides leadership in assessment, including student learning outcomes, and program review of the department.
•Provides leadership in accreditation requirements by supporting and maintaining department, school and/or university accreditation requirements.

Leadership in Strategic Planning and Meeting Goals
•Establishes and oversees an effective governance structure within the department.
•Develops and implements the department’s short- and long-term goals and plans that are aligned to the School of Hospitality’s mission, vision, and values.
•Clearly communicates and operationalizes the School of Hospitality’s vision for the future of the department.
•Creates a culture of collaboration and shared responsibility for success.

Management of Faculty
•Provides recommendations to the Dean for hiring, retention, tenure, promotion, and post-tenure review; reassigned work; sabbatical leaves; and other leaves of absence.
•Responds to student concerns and works with students, faculty, staff, and other University offices to resolve concerns, conflicts, and disputes.
•Provides effective management and direction to part-time and full-time faculty, support staff, and student workers.
•Assigns faculty teaching duties.
•Promotes and supports faculty and staff performance.
•Evaluates faculty performance.
•Addresses issues regarding appropriate professional behavior among faculty as well as that between faculty and students.

Manages in Matters Related to Finances, Facilities, Resources
•Manages course and program enrollments.
•Manages departmental budget and provides input to the dean regarding resource management.
•Oversees custody and authorized use of university property charged to the department and the assignment of department space and facilities.

Required Qualifications

• Terminal degree in Hospitality Management, Hotel Management, or other industry-related discipline.
• Record of effective teaching, scholarship, and service in higher education
• Experience effectively leading committees or other official initiatives
• Experience in consensus building of teams, conflict prevention, and conflict resolution.
• Previous experience using effective tools and strategies for managing department and hospitality initiatives that lead to on-time completion.

Preferred Qualifications

Meets the qualifications for Associate or Full Professor in one of the programs in the department.
Experience with:
•Evaluating faculty performance.
•Mentoring faculty, staff and, students.
•Leading curriculum change.
•Assessing programs for continuous improvement.
•Utilizing assessment data for continuous improvement.
•Assessment and accreditation reporting.
•Managing budgets and other resources.
•Communicating a clear vision and motivating others.
•Developing and maintaining partnerships with entities across the University and with community organizations.
•An understanding of the issues that affect college students from a range of backgrounds, including students who are first generation, culturally/ethnically diverse, linguistically diverse, non-traditional, and LGBT.
•Nationally recognized certificates and licenses relevant to hospitality and/or hotel management. (For example: CHSP, CHE, CHRM, etc.)
• Must qualify for tenure in one of the programs in the department.
• Minimum of six (6) years of experience teaching in higher education.
• Previous experience with the operationalization of an organization’s mission, vision, and values.
