General Summary

Perform secretarial and paraprofessional-level tasks in support of a major function within Career Services requiring independent knowledge of University policies, procedures and regulations. Plans and coordinates campus-wide Job Location and Development (JLD) events such as job fairs and employer outreach for all enrolled EMU students.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Answer questions from University personnel, students, and employers on University and Departmental policies, procedures and regulations.

Produce and distribute applicable procedure guides and forms to students and staff.

Research and identify off-campus job opportunities promote to enrolled students and assist the students in acquiring part-time jobs, regardless of their financial need.

Ensure guidelines are met using the Federal Work Study Program.

Maintain records and produce Job Location and Development reports. Maintain job listings and employment information, including organizing, indexing and posting.

Monitor compliance with applicable Federal and State laws as related to student employment, such as I-9 verification.

Process EPafs for student hires, payroll changes and reporting.

Receive, read, interpret correspondence, and determine proper handling.

Type and proof correspondence, forms and reports.

Receive and route telephone calls.

Initiate and prepare requisitions for material, supplies and services.

Compile statistics and prepare reports on Departmental operations.

Assist in the training and orientation of new employees.

Coordinate career-related programs, such as student employment job fairs.

Serve on appropriate University and Departmental committees, such as the Student Employment Commission.

Hire, train and supervise student employees.

Operate common office equipment.

Perform related Departmental duties as required.

Qualifications

Ability to read, write, interpret instructions and perform basic arithmetic calculations, typically acquired through the completion of a high school education, is necessary in order to perform routine secretarial and paraprofessional-level tasks within the Career Services function.

Three years of related experience are necessary.

Knowledge of student employment and Federal Work Study policy procedures and regulations, preferred. Familiarity with word processing and computer systems and typing ability with knowledge of keyboard are necessary.

Knowledge of University student employment, payroll practices, financial aid, college work-study policies and regulations is necessary.

Two years customer service related experience is necessary.

A specific typing speed may be required depending on department needs and it should be noted at time of posting.
