Assistant Professor, Youth Development/Prevention Science (56100)

Location:
Gainesville, FL
Open Date:
Nov 12, 2019
Description:

The Department of Family, Youth and Community Sciences at the University of Florida (UF) seeks applications to fill a 9-month tenure-accruing Assistant Professor position beginning August 16, 2020. The appointment will be 55% teaching and 45% research but may change in accordance with the needs of the unit. In 2019, UF was ranked the 7th best public university in the United States by US News and World Report, with exceptional research, teaching, and a university-wide commitment to diversity.

Applicants should demonstrate expertise in youth development and prevention science, strong methodological and analytical research skills, successful multidisciplinary collaborations, and success in disseminating findings. While the area of specialization in prevention science is open, it is required that the candidate have expertise in theories that inform prevention-oriented research, developmental processes, adolescents and emerging adults, and risk behaviors or resilience. We are actively recruiting faculty who can contribute to our department mission of diversity and who can support graduate and undergraduate education, including our Ph.D. program in Youth Development and Family Sciences.

It is expected that the faculty member will engage in an active research program, publish in scholarly journals, and seek contract and grant funding to actively support their research program. The faculty member will also participate actively in graduate education by chairing graduate committees, serving on graduate committees, supervising thesis and dissertation research, and publishing the results with their graduate students.

It is expected that the faculty member will also engage in scholarly activities related to instruction, including teaching graduate and/or undergraduate courses, advising and mentoring graduate and/or undergraduate students, participating in curriculum revision and enhancement, seeking funding for their teaching program, supervising graduate and undergraduate research and creative work, publishing teaching-related scholarship, producing learning tools, and engaging in professional development activities related to teaching and advising. Successful candidates must be committed to working with diverse student and community populations, and are encouraged to support and participate in the CALS Honors Program, distance education, and international education.

Because of the IFAS land-grant mission, all faculty are expected to be supportive of and engaged in all three mission areas—Research, Teaching and Extension—regardless of the assignment split specified in the position description.

The Department of Family, Youth and Community Sciences is dedicated to promoting diversity, multiculturalism, and inclusion. We are especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity, inclusivity, and excellence of the academic community.
