Overview

Under the supervision of the Assistant Vice President for Academic Advising and Student Success and the direction of the Support Net Coordinator, this position provides frequent and intrusive individual and group academic coaching to students in order to promote academic success, return to good academic standing, retention and graduation.

Position SummaryMajor duties of the job include:

  • Provide academic coaching and resource support to assist students in making progress toward earning an undergraduate degree including maintaining or improving academic standing
  • Prioritize coaching efforts on students on Probation, ensuring four meetings per student per term
  • Coach students referred by faculty or other programs through direct referral or Educational Advisory Board (EAB, Bulldog Connect) software
  • Make appropriate referrals to additional student services as needed
  • Interpret and clearly explain university policies and procedures as they relate to individual student concerns
  • Facilitate workshops for students on topics related to academic success, plan series of Academic Success Workshops each term, including preparation of workshop materials for students
  • In cooperation with Coordinator, assist in developing additional strategies and activities to support student success
  • Assist Coordinator with training and mentoring graduate interns when requested by Coordinator
  • Track student activity and participation and prepare necessary summary reports through database software
  • Upon request, participate in the creation, planning, and implementation of workshops, seminars, and programming to establish equitable support to degree completion
  • As assigned, contribute to departmental or divisional projects, tasks, workgroups or committees to successfully design and implement initiatives related to student success, retention and graduation goals

Education and Experience
    Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, human services disciplines, or another related field. Equivalent to two years of professional experience in a student services program in higher education or a related field.
      A Master’s degree in Counseling, Education, Social Work, or a related field can be substituted for one year of professional experience.
