The University recognizes that in order to provide exceptional programs, like cooperative education, employer development is a critical role. This position is a key contributor to the expansion of co-op as well as strengthening recruitment of interns and recent graduates.

In order to enter new job markets and support additional majors in the Kennedy College of Sciences, employer development is critical. This position will work in conjunction with efforts to prepare students for the workplace with an emphasis on building recruiting relationships across the sciences.

The position markets UMass Lowell and its students to prospective employers. The assistant director works closely with career development staff and faculty to develop and implement strategies, policies, and procedures that ensure a high-quality recruiting program. Working as part of a career development team devoted to sharing with students the practices, experiences, and networks needed for their professional growth, the assistant director cultivates partnerships that provide students with rich career building opportunities.

The Career & Co-op Center provides students and alumni with comprehensive career development support to successfully transition from their academic pursuits to their career goals by promoting and facilitating career education, exploration of options and connections with employers. The Career & Co-op Center is a part of the Division of Student Affairs & University Events. This is a dynamic division involved in key university-wide strategic initiatives, such as experiential learning, corporate engagement, retention, and diversity and inclusion.

EMPLOYER DEVELOPMENT

Lead employer development activity to successfully launch co-op throughout the Kennedy College of Sciences;

Cultivate employer outreach and relationship-building by serving as an active ambassador between UMass Lowell and the employment community;

Market UMass Lowell and its students to prospective employers;

Contribute to the development and implementation of strategies, policies, and procedures that ensure a high-quality recruiting program, reflecting the needs and expectations of UMass Lowell students and potential employers;

Write and present effectively to promote UMass Lowell to prospective and existing employers

EMPLOYER PROGRAMMING

Collaborate within the Career & Co-op team and with student groups to arrange on-campus recruiting activities;

Participate in the design and delivery of career-related events, and recruit employers for participation in career development events;

Recruiting events include, but are not limited to, career fairs, on-campus interviewing, recruiting tables, information sessions, site tours, etc.

STUDENT & EMPLOYER RELATIONS

Collaborate closely within the Career & Co-op team to connect UMass Lowell students with employer partners, within the context of a comprehensive developmental approach to career planning and mentoring, including internships and co-ops;

Understand and communicate to students, employers, and other stakeholders how co-op and other high impact practices prepare UMass Lowell students in distinctive ways for a range of career paths;

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Minimum of five years professional experience in career services and employer relationship-building within higher education and/or business environments
  • Knowledge of best practices for establishing effective employer relationships and working with employer partners
  • Adaptability and ability to forge new collaborative partnerships with employers, faculty, staff and alumni in a growing and transforming workplace
  • Ability to develop and independently manage projects with accountability to multiple university constituents
  • Excellent networking, presentation, writing and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient computer skills, especially CRM (Salesforce), spreadsheet, and career services software systems (Handshake)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree preferred
  • Experience in higher education
  • Demonstrated strong organizational skills
  • Candidate should be flexible to work evenings and occasional weekends, as needed
  • Ability to travel locally and nationally
  • Strong understanding of UMass Lowell's student population, academic disciplines, and related career and graduate opportunities is preferred
