General Summary

Coordinate the office operation for a specific department, unit or office. Provide customer service and assist in the development and implementation of internal policies, procedures and practices. Act as liaison to other campus offices.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Manage the day to day office operational activities in support of a specific department or unit.

Balance daily cash receipts and deposits, oversee recordkeeping for use in budget monitoring.

Provide input for budget development and prepare periodic status reports.

Produce office correspondence, newsletters, bulletins, research projects and informational materials generated within the department.

Proofread and edit manuscripts and reports as necessary, or as requested.

Process requisitions invoices and billing statements and/or initiate collection procedures as necessary.

Coordinate workshop, meeting room and appointment schedules.

Hire and train and/or coordinate training of clerical and student support staff.

Participate in the development of departmental policies with responsibility for the implementing, monitoring and interpretation of policy directives.

Act as a resource for other clerical staff on problem resolution and liaison to faculty and other campus offices.

Ensure customer concerns are handled expeditiously.

Adhere to any and all NCAA, Mid-American Conference and Eastern Michigan University policies, rules, regulations, and operational procedures.

Perform related departmental duties, as required.

Qualifications

Knowledge of computer information systems, policy and procedure development, and its business administration operations, typically acquired through an Associate's degree is necessary.

Two years of experience as an account clerk or bookkeeper or two college level accounting courses, or equivalent experience demonstrating knowledge of basic accounting theory is necessary.

Three years of satisfactory customer service experience is necessary in order to master basic customer service skills, monitor and assist in the improvement of customer service and identify training needs of customer service support staff.

Three years of previous supervisory experience is necessary.

Personal computing skills sufficient to utilize word processing spreadsheet, and/or database management applications, and perform file management and/or data input/referral functions are necessary. Knowledge of specific software applications and University information systems utilized in the work unit assignment is desirable.

A specific typing speed may be required depending on department needs and it should be noted at time of posting.

Knowledge of specific departmental policies and procedures utilized in the area of assignment may be desirable.
