12-Nov-2019 Close All Job SummaryThe Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs welcomes applications for an Assistant Director of Policy & Compliance. This role plays a pivotal role in risk reduction for the Division of Student Affairs by understanding university policy and governmental regulations and determining their relevance to divisional activities. The Assistant Director uses this understanding and works with campus and divisional subject-matter experts to develop division-specific guidelines, protocol and training resources. The Assistant Director works with directors and unit heads across the division to assess and document organizational standards and practices pertaining to compliance matters.Who We Are

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Division-Level Policy and Compliance Oversight

  • Lead and coordinate divisional efforts around compliance.
  • Advise Student Affairs’ leadership on compliance issues involving divisional activities and guide the development and implementation of policies or protocol to address these issues.
  • Stay apprised of changes in policies, regulations and laws that could impact divisional activities and develop reports and white papers to prepare Student Affairs leadership for the changes.
  • Perform ongoing and ad hoc research to help guide divisional response to compliance concerns and to help reduce the risk profile for Student Affairs.
  • Develop and implement division-wide policies, protocol, and approval mechanisms to ensure divisional activities are conducted in accordance with the values and priorities of campus and division leaders.
  • Represent Student Affairs on the campus’ Ethics & Compliance Working Group.
  • Coordinate divisional response to any regulatory investigation or audit.
  • Oversee the review and approval process for revenue and zero-dollar contracts and MOUs division-wide.

Departmental Compliance and Internal Control Activities

  • Work with directors and unit heads to assess departmental activities and to identify applicable regulatory frameworks.
  • Develop process maps, document procedures, and identify internal controls used by departments to comply with campus, system, local, state and federal requirements.
  • Assess departmental protocols to ensure that sufficient compliance and risk reduction practices are in place.
  • Ensure that departmental directors are made aware of emerging risk and compliance concerns and recommend measures to address these concerns.
  • Review and approve newly proposed department-specific compliance plans and annually review established plans.

Training and Outreach

  • Work with departmental directors and staff to train them on current policies and best practices and advise them on how to respond to compliance concerns in their areas.
  • Assist directors in assessing current department-specific activities and developing compliance plans and training plans to mitigate departmental risk.
  • Work collaboratively with Student Affairs leadership, departmental directors and unit supervisors to build tools and resources to enable their staff to identify, understand and comply with relevant legal, regulatory and policy constraints that apply to the work being done by units (e.g. FERPA, UBIT, Clery Act, GAAP, etc.)
What We Can Offer

Anticipated Starting Salary is $80,000.

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or applicable experience
  • 3 years’ related professional experience with a consistent track record of increasing responsibility.
  • Two years of progressively responsible program management experience within higher education.

  • Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Validated ability as a problem solver.
  • Demonstrated customer-service orientation.
  • Shown ability to work with a wide range of people.
What We Would Like You To Have
  • Juris Doctorate or Master’s degree in related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Two years of successful supervisory experience of professional staff or programs.
  • At least three years of successful experience in planning, developing and implementing complex strategic goals and program initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret/apply state laws and policy.
  • Validated ability to build and edit policies and procedures.
