Description

The Police CommunicationsOperator answers emergency and non-emergency telephones and police radio;provides radio communications for University Police Officers and Police Aideson campus; initiates and receives information and request for services formallied law enforcement agencies; monitor/reacts to thirty additional telephonelines connected to the campus emergency telephone system; receives and recordsinformation and request for police services both in person and via telephonereporting of criminal offenses and accidents; initiates and receives telephoniccommunications with local police departments and emergency centers viadedicated cable for relaying/referral police, fire, medical and other emergencyinformation; monitors and maintains radio communications with campusdepartments which work in cooperation with University Police to ensure mutualsupport is provided and to maintain public safety and protection of Universityproperty; and operates various computer terminal/equipment internal to theoperations of the department and equipment leased from external agencies.

 This position is classified asEssential personal and candidates will be required to work varies shiftsincluding weekends and holidays.



Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalentand 2 years of clerical or related experience, such as dispatching or emergencycommunications. Candidate must possess basic computer skills and experienceworking with windows based communications systems and alarm systems.

 Except for qualificationsestablished by law, additional related experience and formal education in whichone has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for fullperformance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the educationor experience on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalentto one year of experience.

 A Criminal Background Investigationincluding a polygraph and psychological evaluation is required for the hiredcandidate and the results may impact employment.
