Special Information

This position is subject to the continued availability of funding. Hours may vary depending on experience and interest, but we expect this position to be 30-40 hours/week for a maximum of 19 weeks. Although IHD’s projects are almost-entirely grant and contract-funded, IHD works to support all staff with Professional Development and other career-growth opportunities.

Job Description

Northern Arizona University's Institute for Human Development (NAU-IHD) seeks an hourly coordinator/educational coach for a grant-funded project. The coach will ultimately provide support and guidance to four participants with I/DD who are planning for and/or participating in postsecondary education. The person hired will be trained in order to adhere to the model program and implement the program with fidelity.

Minimum Qualifications

• experience and/or interest in working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD)
• an understanding of the social model of disability
• an understanding of self-determination and inclusion as it relates to persons with disabilities and the disability rights movement
• excellent verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

• experience related to coaching or mentorship
• a bachelor’s degree
• a belief in the transformative power of higher education
• a self-starting attitude
• a willingness to problem-solve

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

The guiding philosophy that drives this grant-funded project is as follows: If students with I/DD self-determine their educational and employment goals and have access to supports to realize these goals, in authentic inclusive and age-appropriate environments, these students will achieve significantly improved transition and employment outcomes. This philosophy guides the model implementation and the person hired to be the coordinator/coach will have the skills to bring this philosophy to fruition.

Background Information

Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, an employment history verification and a degree verification (in some cases) prior to employment. You may also be required to complete a fingerprint background check.

Additionally, as an employer in the state of Arizona, NAU is required to participate in the federal E-Verify program that assists employers with verifying new employees' right to work in the United States.

Finally, each year the Northern Arizona University Police Department releases an annual security report. The report is a result of the federal law known as the Clery Act and contains policy statements that address the school’s policies, procedures and programs concerning safety and security including policies for responding to emergency situations and sexual offenses. The report contains three years of data for Clery reportable crime statistics for the campus along with the most current year’s Fire Safety Report, which includes policy statements and fire statistics for Flagstaff on-campus student housing.

Salary

The hourly wage is $23.00 - $25.00 depending on experience.

FLSA Status

This position is non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). The incumbent is eligible for overtime pay or compensatory time according to University policy. Further, the employee must submit timesheets that accurately reflect all hours worked.
