Your opportunity:

Central to realizing the School’s vision is the development of quality, high-level external partnerships with corporate sectors to ensure long-term relationships with the top business firms in the world and Canada. The Career Services team provides support to all students across nine program areas to ensure that they are fully supported in their career planning, professional development and job search activities.

The Career Consulting team plays a critical role ensuring that Rotman students are fully supported in their career planning activities such that they realize their career aspirations. As a Career Consultant, you will be responsible for a group of students with whom you will support and coach over the course of their academic program and beyond, in their individual career planning and job search skills development.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Advising students on career-related matters by providing options and consequences incorporating personal circumstances impacting academic success and an understanding of an individual's background
  • Advising students on job search, industry research and networking strategies including cover letter, resume and interview preparation
  • Advising and coaching students on developing career-related goals
  • Developing program components to foster students' individual career development process
  • Facilitating educational workshops and seminars
  • Identifying and recommending appropriate mentorship opportunities for students
  • Tracking program metrics to inform continuous service improvements
  • Planning and implementing components of recruitment related projects



CampusEssential Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in a related field (e.g. Human Resources) or acceptable combination of equivalent education and experience.
  • Minimum five years full-time, relevant, progressively more senior experience in the industry sector(s) of focus in a recruiting, human resources function and/or a line role where a broad understanding of careers, jobs, the business sector and its competitors was gained
  • Experience in coaching, developing strategic business development plans, developing and implementing programs and events, relationship management and project management is required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a strong emphasis on influencing skills
  • Outstanding organizational ability; ability to work independently, to set priorities and work schedules to meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated decision-making skills in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of consulting, coaching, job search skills and presentation skills
  • Outstanding customer service focus essential and an ability to relate well to the highly diverse and demanding communities of students and businesses
  • Knowledge of international job market and cultural differences which influence career success
  • Must have a good understanding of the graduate business student and employer job market
  • Tact, discretion, sensitivity to confidential matters
  • Able to work effectively with a wide variety of people at different levels of the University and with external stakeholders
  • Strong computer skills; good knowledge of MS Office and an understanding of how to use databases effectively

Assets (Nonessential):
  • Certification in HR (CHRP) or Coaching
  • Experience in campus recruiting for graduate business students
