Position Description:
The University of Northern Iowa's School of Music is seeking applicants for the position of Director of Orchestral Activities to begin August 17, 2020. The successful candidate will conduct the University of Northern Iowa Symphony Orchestra and teach portions of the undergraduate or graduate conducting sequence. The candidate will teach in a secondary area depending on qualifications and department need. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated record of recruiting and retaining students, as well as maintaining an active research, creative, national and international performance, and service portfolio.

Education Requirements:
Doctoral Degree in Instrumental Conducting or related field. Evidence of degree completion required by August 2020. ABD will be considered.
Required Qualifications:
Excellence as an orchestral conductor with demonstrated skills in understanding a broad range of musical styles, including collaborations with opera, choirs, and bands. A minimum of two years of professional experience as an orchestral conductor at the collegiate level or equivalent experience, also required. For consideration at the Associate Professor rank the candidate must have a demonstrated, sustained record of effective teaching, scholarship and professional activity that would merit appointment as Associate Professor in the School of Music.
Desirable Qualifications:
Expertise in a secondary area that could include music theory or music education. Other secondary areas may be considered. A minimum of two years public or private school teaching experience.
