Job Details

Position:

Trinity Christian College invites applications for a full-time, tenure track position in the Music Department beginning August 2020. Candidates will have expertise in choral conducting.

Qualifications:

D.M.A. in choral conducting or a closely related field required. Previous college-level teaching experience desired.

Trinity seeks faculty candidates who are professing Christians and are committed to excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service. Successful candidates will possess the ability to articulate the relationship among their academic discipline, the vocational preparation of their students, and a vision for human flourishing that emerges from the Christian faith. Successful candidates will also be dedicated to personal involvement with students outside of the classroom through advising and other informal academic and cultural settings.

The Department and the Opportunity:

The music department at Trinity Christian College serves major and non-major students within a Christian liberal arts curriculum. We offer majors in music, music education, music production, and music and worship. In addition to courses that might be found in many music departments, we have created core courses in music performance and music scholarship distinctive to our curriculum and Christian commitments. Students from many different majors participate in departmental ensembles: chamber choir, concert choir, Gospel choir; brass quintet, chamber music, jazz ensemble, and wind ensemble. In both academic study and performance, the department values and encourages deep and wide exploration of musical repertory in a variety of styles. The department also values and seeks to extend cross-disciplinary initiatives and collaboration with partners both on and off campus. Preference will be given to candidates who can contribute vitally to departmental growth in ways that are reflective of our student body and of a rootedness in our particular Chicagoland place and time.

Responsibilities:

This is a 9-month tenure-track faculty role. Specific teaching assignments will depend on how the candidate's areas of expertise intersect with those of the current faculty. Potential curricular areas include choral ensembles, applied lessons, conducting, and music performance seminars. A secondary emphasis in either music education or music theory is desirable. Regardless of particular areas of teaching, Trinity is particularly interested in candidates who are motivated to more integrally connect the music department and its students with musical life in Chicago. Additional responsibilities include academic advising, meeting with prospective students, participation in the life of the department, scholarly and professional achievement, and college service.

Compensation:

Rank and salary commensurate with experience. Benefits include health insurance, pension, life insurance, and disability insurance.

Timeline and Application Process:

Review of applications will begin December 15, 2019. The desirable start date is August 2020. For further information about the position contact:
