The Group Teacher is a grant-funded position in the Child Development Center (CDC) who is responsible for the effective operation of his/her classroom and the well-being of the children enrolled in the Center. The Group Teacher manages the classroom and the safety of the children, plans lessons and other learning activities, and prepares schedules; as the cooperating teacher, is responsible for the supervision of the Bergen Community College students who are placed at the CDC for Fieldwork and/or other course work; prepares evaluation of field students in accordance with criteria established by the Early Childhood Education faculty; attends staff training sessions, parent/teacher meetings, makes observations, recordings and reporting as assigned; maintains records for individual students in the classroom; as a member of the CDC team, maintains care of the individual classroom and the Center in general; and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required: Associates degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development or Child Development Associate (CDA) credential required; Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development preferred. Academic training in the field of Early Childhood Education/Child Development preferred. Minimum of two years’ experience teaching children under six years of age required. Successful candidate will be required to undergo a background check. Demonstrates understanding of the community college mission and exhibits strong skills in communication, customer and student focus, building relationships, organizing and planning. Must have excellent interpersonal skills to work with staff, faculty, children and parents. Must be punctual, reliable, and flexible with the ability to multi-task. Must be able to work respectfully with diverse population and have the physical stamina to care for energetic young children. This position requires the ability to stand for long periods of time, stoop, squat, and bend to attend to children during the work day. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Must be technologically proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Excel, as well as Gmail and internet research. Must be a detail oriented, self-starter with ability to work independently with little to no supervision and as a team in a collaborative manner. Must have ability to exercise good judgment, make routine decisions, as well as ability to understand and follow established protocols.
