The essential job functions of this position require you to: communicate and build working relationships with staff, faculty and candidates from diverse backgrounds; abide by University guidelines; maintain confidentiality; prioritize and manage work effectively; provide exceptional customer service and positively represent the university; ensure work is detailed, accurate and completed in a timely manner; perform work in a sedentary/standing position for long periods of time; interact with individuals from various levels throughout the university and work successfully in a team as well as independently.

Shift

Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm; additional hours may be required based on departmental needs.

Job Summary

The Employment Consultant will proactively build strong relationships with hiring officials and departments throughout the University of Kentucky, including Chandler and Good Samaritan Hospitals. Provide direction to hiring officials regarding job requirements, recruitment strategies, and hiring timelines to ensure desired applicant pools. Serve as a “high touch” coach through aggressive training and consultation for targeted hiring departments.

This position will research and recommend applicable selection instruments and tools to hiring officials. Guide hiring officials through the selection process, including providing Targeted Selection interview guides, promoting and conducting search committee orientation/effective hiring practices training, and aid in final hiring decision-making process. Monitor and report on individual unit hiring success rates as well as promote best practices within the University.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

Successful applicants must have superior customer service focus, excellent communication skills, solid professional knowledge of hiring and selection techniques, as well as an ability to quickly gain an understanding of the business operations of distinct units of the University. The ability to successfully influence & manage relationships with hiring officials is required. Must enjoy & excel at collaboration & problem solving. Strong planning & organizational skills, the ability to effectively persuade others, & high emotional intelligence are all keys to success in this position.

Does this position have supervisory responsibilities? NoPreferred Education/Experience

Prefer Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or related field. Prefer several years of experience and a proven track record in hiring & selection coaching & consultation. Experience with Targeted Selection is a plus.

    Research

    In fiscal year 2016, the University of Kentucky was awarded $316.5 million in external grants and contracts. UK is one of only eight universities across the country with the full range of undergraduate, graduate, professional and medical programs on one contiguous campus, leading to groundbreaking discoveries and unique cross-disciplinary research and scholarship.
