The Stanford Blood & Marrow Transplantation (BMT) Division's Cell Therapy Facility (CTF) seeks a highly motivated individual to serve as CTF Flow Cytometry Research Technical Manager 1/Director of the Investigational Flow Cytometry services and cellular monitoring. The BMT CTF is a multi-product manufacturing facility that provides regulatory, quality systems, process development and manufacturing support to the School of Medicine, Lucile Packard Children's Hospital (LPCH) and Stanford Health Care (SHC) in developing innovative cell and gene-based therapies for the treatment of disease and the promotion of health in pediatric and adult patients in Phase I-II clinical trials and standard of care therapies.



This manager will oversee a team of Manufacturing Specialists who will perform cell therapy processing, typically as operators, for a variety of cell therapies in cancer immunotherapy and stem cell regenerative medicine to support Investigational New Drug (IND) Phase I-II trials. This role works both independently and collaboratively across different functional areas: Process Development & Manufacturing, Regulatory Affairs, Quality Systems, Operations and Finance & Administration. Opportunities for Process Development will be available to incumbents in this position based on operational needs and current projects.



This position will report to the Medical & Scientific Director of the BMT CTF with coordination from CTF Operation Director. The candidate will liaise with senior leadership to provide vision, strategy, direction for cellular therapy and cellular monitoring related to tissue transplantation. This includes the development of cutting-edge, high dimensional tools for tracking changes in phenotype and function of stem/progenitor/immune cells and evaluating and adopting novel technologies to streamline and standardize these analyses. The candidate should be able to work independently and liaise with all Stanford School of Medicine Faculty and external collaborators. The position will require making impactful decisions that improve the quality and critical needs of clinical and translational research programs. The candidate will also work to achieve mission goals through the management of staff and/or managerial staff engaged in developing, advancing and applying science, engineering and technology to improve clinical outcomes for patients with blood malignancy and transplantation.



This position entails work under Biosafety Level 2 (BSL2) and current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) level conditions and adherence to corresponding requirements.



In this role, you will:

• Provide strategic planning for own work group; participate with senior managers in higher level strategic planning. Communicate operational objectives and assignments and delegate to staff.
• Manage the daily operations of an assigned area(s) which include recruiting, hiring, training, developing evaluating and setting priorities of staff, coordinate business, technical, and educational activities for direct reports.
• Oversee interdepartmental activities, projects and efforts by applying advanced technical and professional knowledge. Serve as the initial managerial escalation point for problems from clients and other staff.
• Manage project budgets, schedules, and resources. Oversee preparation of periodic financial and technical reports and operating plans.
• Interface with clients to determine project requirements. Establish service level agreements with clients.
• Monitor scientific, engineering, and/or technology trends and evaluate emerging technologies to recommend for adoption and implementation.
• Communicate and implement policies, procedures, best practices, recommendations and guidelines compliance with established University administrative policies and procedures.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

• Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience. Advanced degree may be required.
• Experience leading or overseeing the work of technical staff.
• Understanding of relevant scientific, engineering, or technical disciplines.
• Ability to problem solve.
• Ability to synthesize and articulate technical and scientific methodologies, specifications, and information.
• Experience leading scientific, engineering, or technical research projects or programs.
• Knowledge of emerging technologies, trends, methodologies, and resource management principles.
• Ability to work and communicate effectively with others.

In addition, preferred requirements include:

• Advanced degree in a scientific field or related.
• Extensive experience and expertise in Flow Cytometry.
• Experience leading complex scientific, engineering or technical research projects or programs.
• Detailed understanding of relevant business and technical knowledge and problem resolution.
• Ability to synthesize and articulate technical and scientific methodologies, specifications, and information.
• Knowledge of emerging technologies, trends, methodologies, and resource management principles.
• Exceptional customer relationship and consensus building skills.
• Ability to influence and establish effective working relationships in a diverse environment.
• Ability to resolve complex issues quickly and make decisions that meet university objectives in a collaborative culture.
